fan clutch question

When I replaced my old fan clutch with a new one, I noticed that the tension in the new fan clutch was far greater then the old one. After driving about a 1000 miles on the fresh engine build with continuing heat issues at higher speeds, I am wondering if what I originally noticed with the new clutch may have been a fault rather then just a "New" feel.

Should a good old fan clutch have the same viscous tension as a new fan clutch?
Perhaps a stupid question...guess I am reaching.

Ghoste

The new one should feel tighter and if anything the looser one should be the one that causes heating issues.

Do you still have that spring in the lower radiator hose? How old is your thermal stat? Last time you had the radiator flushed?   :Twocents:

Tilar

Make sure you actually have a thermostat in it. At higher speeds the water may be moving too fast to actually cool down in the radiator.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

The thermostate is new with a 1/8 inch hole driled in for air escape. Radiator is original but restored like new when engine was done about 2k ago. I know that the lower rad. hose does not have the spring. Even Napa could find me one with the spring.

That is where my suspicion lays next if it reoccurs after I set timing to 15btdc - 36 total. I was also thinking carb was lean maybe...Edelbrock performer 750.

Ghoste

IIRC, they are shipped a little on the lean side.
