I'm rebuilding my stock '84 318 from my 1984 ramcharger and I'm thinking of dropping it in my dart. Now What I'm wondering what you suggest I do to make maybe 300-400 hp I've got a aluminum eddy intake with a 4bbl carter carb and a really stout purple cam. I'm thinking of running stock pistons and will not likely get the block blueprinted or balanced. I'm just wondering any secrets to make power out of stock heads without changing valves, or pistons etc. I've got stock flat top pistions

port the heads , use a shroter duration cam with less opverlap to trap cylinder pressure & lots of lift to get air in & out,  Engle has some great grinds

What heads? Id suggest some '302' casting heads and make sure you keep the compression ratio up. I think my cam is in my sig. i love it, pretty wild for a lil 318 but is still street friendly (in my daily driver). Id go with a AirGap intake too. Mine SHOULLLDDDD be about 350-380hp. no i dont have any official numbers, but its gotta be in that area. 318 is a good little motor. Mine had 120k+ miles and the factory bore size still, not a spec of wear. And on the cam i do know the comp cam im running is a little newer technology, they utilize the large lifter size that the other mopar cams (or so ive been told) do not. My buddy has a 318 +.030, some machine work, port/polish 2.02 j-heads, same cam i have, thermoquad and airgap intake. 727, suregrip/4.10s. He is in the mid 14s with it....oh yea and its a 78 dodge van

I agree , the 302 or 308 heads are awesome

there is a casting # on the heads , the 302 & 308 heads are used on 87-92 truck engines
