Help with engine ID

Can someone help decode these numbers?

ID pad on left side front of block: J 440 HP   9  15

Numbers cast in to right side of block just below the head: 3698830    440   7 (the 7 could be T)

Its a 440 but can anyone tell the year and build date?

Is there supposed to be a VIN number on the block somewhere?

J = 1973 model year
440= CID
HP = HP assembly
9 15 = engine assembly date of September 15th, 1972
The VIN should be on a pad on the passenger's side just above the pan rail about 1/3 of the way back from the front of the block.

3698830    440   7 = casing number for 72-78 440. The 7 is the core revision number.
