But in NJ the state thinks we are too stupid to pump our own gas.  :slap:

Yeah, and I still pump my own gas.  I am not going to let some 17 year old know it all accidentally bang the nozzle into my car or the chrome cap trying to fill it up only to over fill it and spill gas all down the side of the car.  I don't care if its the law in NJ or not.  If it is the law, then why do I have to pump my own fuel when I am filling up the fire trucks on my department and police cars where I work?????

I don't even know any full service stations in my area.......if there even is any.

there is one full service station left around here, it is ran by the nicest old man you'll ever meet...it's gonna be a shame when time finally catches up with him...
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

my 68 does the same thing, but its not the bad, i have to fill up all the time because i dont have a working gas gauge. Ive ran out of gas about six times in the past year. I would just keep it always filled to the rim. :2thumbs:
life's a garden, dig it.

The nozzle has an air gap that shuts down the pump when it senses liquid. This was even a problem back in the LEADED years. The same issue comes up with many older cars with the fill neck behind the license plate. I believe the real problem is the speed in which we fill the tanks and the slope of the filler tube.

This has even happened on my 02' truck. I have a favorite gas station that has a nice slope away from the pump. It never does it on that side of the island, but if someone beats me to it I fill on another island. Sometimes if it's just a few of us pumping it will gush. I have taken notice to this many times.

You can try filling it with the handle of the nozzle help very high. This may help due to the air bleed in the nozzle being at the top of the nozzle.  I would say it's best to just slow it way down when you think you are getting full..
