I just got a 70 ford f250 camper special that has a 390 in it. I was wondering if this is a good engine or if it was one of those lemon engines that should have been used...I know this is a Dodge web site but I was just curious if anyone knew anything about these engines.
thanks

Great engine...I just sold a parts car with a 390 in it, the thing was sitting for 10 years, put the key in, and it still started and drove on the crap that was in the tank. Added some new fuel and after about a week of on and off running, it purred like a kitten. Im now trying to get rid of a Ford 428, sure would go great in the truck  :D

They're good engines. Like MorePwr stated though, the stock non-hardened seats will be a problem unless they've already been done.
Oh & the intake manifold makes up about 1/3 the weight of the engine.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I hope you got money for gas.  These motors suck it up big time whether your totaly loaded or empty.  It is reliable but they're a bugger to work on as far as lifting off the intake.  As is the 360 FE, the valve covers fit over the head and part of the intake.  I swear the intake weighs more that the heads imo.  By the way, the pushrods fit through openings in the intake casting.

ya the 428 would be nice but thats just what i don't need. i got lucky tho cuz i found a recept in the glovebox that said the tranny was rebuilt 30 thousand miles ago. right now its a 2 barrel but i have a 4 barrel for it so hopefully the stock intake will come off easy.
