Hi!
I was wondering if this repro-tach that chargerspecialities.com offers ever was used originally back in the days in any B-Body?

I'm thinking about buying it, seems to be way better readable than the tic-toc-tach and it's way cheaper than the repro tic-toc-tach!

Thank you!

Got me :shruggy: ( I don't think so on a Charger ) but Welcome to the site!
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Nope.   A tach was never an option.    A plain clock was available.

I have the RBYJ version which is produced by Redline Guageworks for him.
1.  You can actually see the tach instead of being confused by the second hand.
2.  The battery doesn't get killed by the cheezy clock running 24/7 waiting for the weekend.   I wear a watch  ;D

Brian,

Hehe, right, I wear a watch too! What you wrote is exactly what I thought!

This one? Looks great, too, but is 85$ more than the one from chargerspecialties.com - do you remember if the wiring was included in the price? In that case it only would be 50 bucks more!

I found another post on this board where I read the font of the numbers was different at the chargerspecialties-tach. The pictures are not good enough to tell that. I wonder what you think of yours' appearance? Looks original?

@1969chargerrtse: Thanks for the welcome!

1.  I am pretty sure that the rbj tach is the same as the charger specialties one.  Even if it's not, the pics sure like it has the same wrong font, not vey close to factory

2. convert your existing clock to quartz and watch it run for months on end without killing the battery. killing the battery is really not a concern with original clocks since I have yet to see one with original factory movement actually work. I did the quartz conversion and mine sits for 1-2 months at a time without a battery tender or any charger and the car fires right up every time.

I have said it before and I will say it again:  if you are going to bother making these, why not use the right lettering?  It's not like they found some oddball  non mopar factory application and are reboxing it.  someone somewhere went to a manufacturer and said " I need these gauge faces reproduced"  it had to be a custom job.  It does not seem like it would have cost any more use correct lettering.  that font still has to be around because pcg and others make decals for them.  I asked this question to dave from rt engineering and he responded that pretty much everyone who sells 68-70 repro B body rally tachs is selling the charger specialties tach.  This was over a year ago, so maybe things have changed and maybe the rbj tach is a new one on the market.

I just compared the rbyj-tach to a picture I found of an original tic-toc-tach, look at the attachment below. It looks quite original to me and compared to the chargerspecialties.com-tach the scale is in the correct place (4500rpm on top, not 4000 as at chargerspecialties)

I think I'll order that one, will post pictures as soon as it's here!

Thank you!

RBYJ was the FIRST on the market... I've had mine for several years now.   I think it looks and works great.      Charger Specialties is the Johnny come lately.   They're not the same that I'm aware of.

Khyron has my old Tic-toc-tac...  Maybe his battery goes dead, maybe not, maybe he conveted the clock, maybe not.  I just know my battery would be dead much too frequently without disconnecting the cables.     It worked pretty good anyway and even if it didn't he got a bargain.

I was looking at the chargerspecialties tach and thinking I was looking at the rbj tach. sorry for the mistake.

My beef with the factory tach, with or without a clock in the center, is the numbering.

Seeing a guage saying "40" in big print makes me think it's a speedo and I'm going 40 mph.  I'd rather see the tach say "4" with a little "x1000" at the bottom instead of the "x100" the way Mopar did it.

(And I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has looked at my Charger's dash and said, "Why does the speedo only go up to 80 mph?")

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The factory speedo is part of the problem.  It's nice that they ran it up to 150 mph, but the end result is that they crammed too many numbers onto a dial that's too small.  Makes it hard to read.
