Well, it all started last Sat. with a letter in the mail saying how my charger was noticed at the Hershey, PA AACA show last October with the person congratulating me on my Senior win.  The letter was from one of the nominating committee people who saw my car at Hershey and was impressed enough with it to nominate it for the Concours d'Elegance show in Bethlehem, PA this year.  All I had to do was send pictures and fill out a brief form describing my car.   My dad and I were lucky enough to be nominated and then selected to be invited to the Concours d'Elegance show in 2006 with his 1970 El Camino SS 396.  He ended up winning the top award there called the Bethlehem Star Award which is given to the most prestigous vehicle in its class.   Anyway, back to the charger.... today at around 10 AM, I get a call on the house phone.  It turned out to be the woman from the Concours calling to let me know that my charger was selected and I was going to be invited to this years Concours d'Elegance show in Bethlehem, PA on June 1st.  How cool is that!?!?!?

For those of you who have never been to a Concours d'Elegance show or have never heard of it, it is pretty much like the Emmys and Oscars of car shows that not just anyone can attend.  There is a tough screening process, then you have to be nominated, and from the vehicles nominated, 6 or 8 cars are invited.  There are various classes and categories for this type of show and my car was placed in the muscle car category which is the same category our el camino was in 2 years ago.  Basically, the show is the Creme de la Crem of the best out there.

Needless to say, I was quite humbled to even be considered as a nominee for this show as I feel that I have a nice car, but I do not feel that my car is at the standards of what this show is all about.  Who knows, may I am the one who is wrong!  Of course, I am always nit picking my car to death too for those of you that do not know me.  Just ask MoparJohn, he knows. :pity:

Looks like I am now up in the ranks with Bill Mann and his plum crazy 70 charger. :2thumbs:  Look out Bill, I might just get a first place at E-town instead of you one of these years. :icon_smile_big:

Actually the car is sick in a sense.  The carb had some issues out in Hershey this year.  The carb is out being rebuilt right now.  Hopefully it will be "healthy" for the show.  Two  years ago, when the el camino was there, the heat was almost 100 degrees and with a black car, doing the parade of cars, the thing almost over heated.  As it was, the winners have to do a parade also which didnt help the issue.  After we got it back into the trailer, the thing vapor locked and couldnt get it started.  Talk about ironic.  A car that wins the top honors award and then can't even get started to get it out of the trailer.  Hopefully it will be cooler this year instead of the 100 degree weather like two years ago.  Regardless, I am sure we will have a blast.

Congrats Brian, I think you have a very nice car but where I strongly disagree is in your ending statement. Your car will do fine in a multibrand show as this but to compare it to Bill's 70 Charger is just wrong! If I remember correctly Bill's car recieved a SILVER CERTIFICATE at the Nationals years ago, your car could never go to that level period! Be happy at what you have not envious of others...

I am not envious of Bill, just having a little fun.  Bills car's are spectacular and I highly respect him and his cars, just like everyone else on this board and at shows.  If I had the time and money to get every nut and bolt to original and had a broadcast sheet to make the car EXACTLY as it would have been brand new, it probably would be.  For now, I am extremely happy with what I have.  It still breaks my heart that I still may have to sell the car as we are still looking for a house and right now do nots have enough funds to get a house that is in decent condition.  So, yes, the charger is still for sale but hopefully I will be able to hold on to it long enough to take it to the show.  If not, it is what it is, and whoever gets the car will probably be able to bring it to the show in my place.  There is a possibility that I might be coming into some money as my mom might be able to help me out as my parents just sold off my grandmothers house and the estate is going to be split up soon.

Either way, it is still a huge honor to be able to make this achievement with my car.  Shoot, dad and I have a little friendly, father/son, competition going on with our cars.  Whose car has more achievements....  the el camino has had two die cast car companies use it to get measurements for making the die cast cars (Welly and Franklin Mint), dad was interviewed with the el camino at the Concours in 2006, won the highest award at the concours, has his junior and senior AACA national with a second place AACA Grand National, and even has had his elky in a magazine.  At least I am catching up with him.  ha ha.  It is all in good fun.

That's cool. The judges must have seen some things in your car that you yourself haven't. I think we as owners (especially perfectionists) look at our stuff with a very critical eye, always seeing things that need to be improved.

Bull, I couldn't agree with your statement more about looking at our cars with a very critcal eye.  After all, we want them to be perfect, right?  Now add a person who is anal retentive about the cleanliness of his car to that equation.  All that equals up to is trouble for me.   ;D

Thanks for the congrats everyone.  It is nice to see all the hard work I have put into my car has paid off.  I guess my attention to detail is what draws people to the car.  Either that or the color combo like my dad says, but I can't take credit for that.  The color of the car was like that when I bought it in 2000.  Could be why I fell in love with the car too.  Oh who am I kidding, it was the big block and 4 speed I fell in love with along with the body lines.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!!!!!!  :boxing_smiley: :nono: :nono:

Hey, Brian. CONGRATS on being selected! But, PUH-leeze!! No need to throw me under the bus!  :shortbus:  :sarcasmalert:

I know, I know. All in fun. No harm done. You honestly have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm sorry to hear you have to sell it now. This might mean only one more chance to win at E-town!! Hey ya never know! It all People's Choice voting this year the entire weekend! Bring friends, dude. Bring friends.  :pity:   Who knows what that show will bring this year, I'd love to see it improve.

You'll have a good time at the Concours. I've attended the Greenwich Concours twice already with my '70, it was actually a very nice show.

And hey, RJS, Thanks! I got your back next time!!  :D :icon_smile_wink:

Congrats again!

Just because I am selling it doesn't mean I might still have it in May or June.  My family is trying to come up with alternatives so I don't have to sell it.  Thankfully, I have a great family that helps each other out.

Peoples choice again this year at E-town, huh? :scratchchin:  Maybe I will do a "Vote for me and I will give you a ride in my car".     Anyway, we were at the Bethlehem  Concours two years ago with the el camino and we all had a great time.  That is why I am really excited about going back.  (only with a better car).   :smilielol:
