Hi,

I'm about to buy a P4120758 viscous fan package. A guy told me the clutch was way too thick to fit on a BB, because it was made for a SB.  :pullinghair:
I don't want to buy this kit, and not be able to install it because the fan touches the radiator...
Did anyone install this kit in his BB Charger?

Thanks in advance.

I have the Mopar viscous fan package on my 68 Charger With a Rb engine and a stock 3 core radiator. It has plenty of clearance.

I dont know if its the same part number that you have listed there but I didnt think that Mopar offered more than one so you should be ok.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

1hot68,

is it the genuine part, or the new one from Mopar Performance?

Thanks.

I had the 5 blade set-up on my '70 440 for a couple of years. Then one day I was cresting a hill at a high rate of speed and the fan chewed up the radiator. I don't know if it was the PN that you specified, but I bought it from Summit about 6 years ago. After that happened, I bought a fan from Autozone which was a 6 blade and used it until I found a correct 7 blade mopar fan. I have been using the same clutch that came with the kit on the last 2 fans with no problems, so I think it was the 5 blade fan that was a little too close which makes sense, with less blades, the angle of attack has to bo steeper (closer to the radiator).
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Thanks for your testimony. I've ordered the kit at http://www.amhightechauto.com/. It won't be installed before May.
I'll give more info when my radiator will be destroyed.  :icon_smile_big:

I just checked the PN and it is the same as yours...

Like I said, I had mine on for a couple of years with no problems, then one day I try and get a little air cresting a hill and BAM!!! The fan hit at the lower part of the radiator. The fan I have now (with the same clutch) is an original Mopar PN 2863216   18 1/2" 7 blade fan. I have about 3/4" clearance at the bottom and about twice that at the top. I have NOT tried to catch air over a hill with this one though.
My car is a frankenstein car, so there could be something wrong causing my fan to be positioned incorrectly.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

By the way, my old car looked alot like yours!

Just 6T9 CHGR

I was running the same package on my 440 for a while.  The fan clutch IS very close to the rad...it has less  than an inch clearance.  You can barely get the fan belt on.
Yes the MP works fine but was a bit close for my comfort...

I switched clutches for an NOS one for a 71-72 Max Cool big block.

A local guy told me today that on his 440 Challenger, he has 1.5 inch of clearance with this kit. :popcrn: :shruggy:

I would look carefully at his rad brackets and yours to see how closely the rad is mounted to the cradle for one thing.  Some rads fit flush to the panel and others seem to be back a little.  The number of cores is obviously a part of it as well.
