 :scratchchin: I've alwasy been under the impression that the runs on the paint on the torsion bars was due to them being "dunked" into the black paint, then hung up to dry. I guess it could be from painting them as shown though, but it would definately have to be sprayed on with 1 VERY thick coat of paint.

As far as the paint daubs, those are a nice touch too. 2 on one torsion bar, 1 on the other. To signify the left from the right when they are hanging on the rack. The color of the daub was to signify what torsion bar they are, IE diameter and use.

What makes you think they were Not 'dunked' and simply set here to drip dry???
...and for photo's?
I'm not so sure you would get an even coating and the right effect by spray painting them.

You are correct that the factory did dip alot of parts in paint containers for assembly speed.
Radiator's and horns are two great examples....

There are some other inspection marks as yet to be applied....

Speaking of which... how did the factory dry that stuff? Were they hung? Were there marks from setting them on a rack? I guess the flat edge on the hex part would tend to hide it better than having a flat spot on the round part. If always seen the drips but never really thought about that much paint running and drying while the part was laying on something.

I've been known to produce some massive drips using only a spray can and my inherent (lack of) skill. ;)

Too much stuff in that shop to drool over. A person could get lost in there. There's a definite shortage of 68 vintage items though.

verts only for torque boxes...     no hanger support plates on the front or rear and no snubber enforcement plate.

I was debating on whether or not those torsion bars were dunked then hung up to dry, or just sprayed where they were setting in the photo. Didn't see any black over spray on anywhere on the floor under neath of them though.

So I'm assuming that you guys did dunk them then? Feel free to give me a  :slap: if you want.

Its the small details on things that really get me interested. Used to be that I was just interested in the cars because of what they were. Now I think I spend just as much time crawling around and under these cars to just look at the small imperfections, and markings. Kind of interests me.

I've been rather negligent in posting on this thread, mostly because of my mistress, Deora.

The Hemi 500 is progressing very nicely!

Was the car missing its origional rear window? Or is there a reason they used a new rear glass? And if so, was it one of the origional replacement windows, or one of the new reproductions? Can't tell from the picture due to the angles of the photo's.

Nope, the original rear glass was in it when they started with the restoration. Can't tell you if they went with original replacement or reproduction, just that is new glass...but will find out.
(BTW, I made a deal on the old glass, just have to pick it up.)  ;)

Hi Mike!....got 'lost' there for awhile with the computer thingy breaking down and site changes wouldn't let me log in....but now it works but I'm starting from scratch.  (might change to my shop name though)

Ed....I thought your car is done??   We are shooting for Vegas...in Two WEEKS....
Carlisle might be another good one to take in and meet up for photos...THAT would be Sweet!

Fitz....the 69 Hemi RT will be going back to B7 Blue....this car was in Missouri....1988 inspection sticker. Although the current owner bought it out of New Jersey.  (4 speed)

Danny...I never took this car apart....two bodyshops had it before me...I am trying to assemble it to #1...in 2 1/2 months...for the Vegas show.....It has All reproduction DATE coded glass to replace the old scratched and chipped glass...windsheild will be going in the next day or two.

Just out of curiousity but what is the origional date code on the rear glass then? I'm guesing that it would be AS2 MI 88G? Or possibly AS2 MI 98G?

Darn it I was thinking that if you did use replacement glass, I was going to ask what you had planned for the origional glass. But if magnumcharger has already spoken for it, its all good. Just was figuring it would be the same date code as my glass in my car, and would make a great back up.
