Bought a -68 440 engine to put in my Charger -70, does anybody knows what kind of piston it is with the "bolt" in it and what was the purpose with it? Just curious.  :scratchchin:

That's not a bolt, although it loks kind of like one. It is the centering hole from the lathe that the piston was machined on. Your engine appears to have one odd replacement piston in it. I would wonder why only one was replaced.

thats the cylinder that dropped a valve 20yrs ago  ;)

Possibly. It does have STD stamped on it indicating there was no bore damage, just a replaced piston. From the pic I can see a fair amount of the top compression ring meaning the bore is probably getting a little worn. May want to think about rebuilding it now, as long as it's apart anyways. Raise the compression ,have it balanced, new cam shaft, rockers, mill and port the heads, hardened exhaust seats..........
Addictive, isn't it?

Why not a stroke while I'm busy?  :2thumbs:

That is a trw/speedpro replacement piston....the appearance is normal.  :yesnod:

Stroking is allways a good idea  ;)

Was thinking of going for the 500CUI kit since I don't race, is there a big difference between the 500 and the 528 kit?  :scratchchin:

I would use the 500 (4.15 stroke) or the 512 (4.25 stroke) to keep things simple. With either of those kits you can run internal oiling. The bigger 528/543 require and external oil pickup.
