The way I interpret what the the general is saying is "I think we got it" and "We just polluted space instead of earth"and "No big chunks yet but you might want to duck"

Yea, and the Earth is flat, right? ::)

That hydrazine fuel is some bad stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrazine (scroll to the bottom of the page and look under safety) Hopefully it will dissipate and or burn up in space and not cause any problems in the future.

Hmmm, I thought this was an old satellite so I wondered why anyone would care if parts were recovered by someone else. Well, it's practically brand new (which is why it was full of fuel) so now I see why it was a bit more important that it was destroyed.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

That video was pretty cool, but what do you expect when you have an unlimited budget, & you can get the best damn fireworks that you can't get from the truck stop on the side of the highway?

I hope the Terrorists  and all those rogue states with the wannabe dictators took notice . If we can hit one satellite at 130 miles up , I think we can hit a country .  :Twocents:

We have safety briefings on Hydrazine and have to check leak detectors every time we work on our F-16's........ wicked stuff....

Someone stole the hydrazine safety pin from an F-16 at Oshkosh in 1988. Dang, I wish the bottle had discharged right then.

And some of you thought us Navy guys just shuttled around our Marines...   ;)

I wonder why it works so good as a propellant for spacecraft? Any idea?

From the Wikipedia article (link above): These reactions are extremely exothermic (the catalyst chamber can reach 800 °C in a matter of milliseconds), and they produce large volumes of hot gas from a small volume of liquid hydrazine, making it an efficient thruster propellant.   ::)

Naaa,,, it was just some nuclear waste we were trying to get rid of..   :eek2:

Certainly was a good PR coup for my employer (Raytheon)... if only the stock price would see some benefit from the news....

Well a Marine was probably the one to press the button  ;)

All jokes aside... that is a great demonstration of power

RD

:patriot: i think its awesome that the missile hit it.. but honestly, dont you think the hydrazine (and the whole damn satellite) would have burnt up in re-entry by itself?

This is just a cover story I believe to:

1. show the capabilities of our missile systems to China (and any other country)

and

2. to destory a satellite that was spying on China (and any other country)

Sorry, dont believe jack on what our government says when it comes to stuff like this, conspiracy theorist or not... this story on saving our atmosphere from the "wicked" hydrazine totally contradicts the pro-pollution policy of our president.  I call  :icon_bs:

Well, that meteor that was reported in Washington last week was supposed to be the "size of a computer monitor" and this satellite was the size of a bus so would you take a chance on it burning up?
