Vehicle License Fee Bill SB6900

There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass
in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our
vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so
that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection.

The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the
vehicle license tabs upon renewal.

The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engine:

Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
Up to 1.9    $0
2.0 - 2.9    $70
3.0 - 3.9    $225
4.0 - 4.9    $275
5.0 - 5.9    $325
6.0 - 7.9    $400
8.0 or over  $600

For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the
engine size in liters to the dollar amount.  Add the amounts for each
vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying
$500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license
fees.  If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more.

The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline,
electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay
more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage
to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well.

Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill.

I have contacted all of our representatives, and I would encourage
everyone reading this to do the same.

Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6900&year=2007

Here's the link for contacting your representatives:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx

If we don't threaten mass rebellion over this, they'll pass this bill
and we'll be paying huge fees every year on top of their increase in the
gas tax.  They have to know that we won't stand for any more taxes or
increase in licensing fees.

I've told my representatives that I will actively work to see that any
lawmaker that supports this bill is replaced at election time.

Please contact your legislators, then copy the text of this email, and
forward it to as many people as possible that you know in Washington
State, and encourage them to contact their representatives and strongly
voice their objection to this bill.

That's horrible, a while back in NJ they wanted to make insurance on bigger cars more $ because they inflicted more damage in an accident. IMO charge the people w/the small cars more because they (some of them) don't hold up as well.  What it come down to is charging extra for everything possible because the politicans can't get enogh $ EVER!

Should be the other way around. If you drive a compact around your likely to get hurt there for you are in a more dangerouse situation. Trucks will always be on the road and probably won't get smaller.

I bought a truck because; modern cars are too small, I feel safer (does not mean I am) and it will take more punishment in an accident, so my premiums should be less. Just like a smoker will pay more for health insurance than a non smoker, less risk. JMO

Quebec, Canada has the same type of setup on license plate fees.  When they brought in the new fees they said it was for the environment.  :brickwall:

That's stupid and I hope the people don't roll over & accept it.

If they wanna charge for gas guzzling, then raise the price of gas.  Leave everything else alone.

If it becomes law in one state , chances are all the others will follow suit .Just like the Emissions testing .  The politicians can't seem to reach deep enough into our pockets . The people will roll over for it because the public are just slaves to the government machine they created . No one in my state voted for the Emissions testing program but we were held hostage by the government with Federal Highway funds . So people will moan and complain about it but they will do what they are told . Like good sheep .

that is exactly how I feel.  Gas is already half tax.  If I use more, I'm paying more taxes.  Enough already!

Good to know is didn't pass.

Gas tax...In Minnesota, and I won't say which party is trying to do it (don't want a political squabble :D), but they want to pass an additional 7 cent gas tax...wow I already feel like I am being raped in this state.

hemihead

Thank God it didn't pass . Here in the state of fines and fees ( PA. ) , we have the second highest gas tax in the country .  :o

In CA, the sheep revolted against the tripling of the vehicle registration fee. So instead of a socialist governor (who managed to negotiate a sweet deal on electricity and natural gas rates at a 400% increase for 12 years), we now have a RINO who will probably drive most businesses out of state with "global warming" fees, AKA taxes. Dang, that was an improvement.  :-\

I here people say it doesn't matter who you vote for. Up until recently, I didn't agree with that.

Now, with governor's like Arnold and a presidential candidate's like McCain, we have one liberal party, and another turning liberal.

I agree, the more the lefties get their way, the worse off the whole country is gonna be in.

And the true conservatives get run out of the race so the libs can have it to themselves.
