Hi!!
I´m going to by some new front weels for my 69 charger!
I vant 15*8 but I´m not sure about the backspace.
The tires will be 235/50 or 235/55  not sure yet.
I want as little backspacing as possible without the tire rubbing the fender!
Borrowed a weel with 3,25 backspace and it looks ok but i have no engin in the car now..

I would really apreciate som help!

For starters, get a spell checker.  :D

For an 8" wide wheel up front, you'll want 4" - 4.5" of backspace. 3.25" will probably rub on the fender.

I have an 18 x 8 with a 4.5" backspace on the front of my '69, no rub.

Does it need to be 15x8? You will get pretty much the same look with a 15x7 and a 235 or 245 15 without any worry of a rub. I run 15x7 255 15 BFG's on the front of my '71 with no issues and plenty of foot print. Will probably run the same on my '69 when it's done. Just a thought.   :scratchchin:

It's all about the backspacing. I tried 3.75" BS on a 8" wheel on my Barracuda with 235/60-15 tires and they rubbed although I know of at least one Charger that had them and it was a tight fit. The tire will be almost the same width no matter how wide the wheel is (within reason of course) so just make sure you choose a backspacing that puts the wheel center in roughly the same location as stock. Stock 7" Mopar wheels had 4" of backspacing so you'll want 4.5" for an 8" wheel and 5" for a 9" wheel (but then you have to worry about suspension clearance). It's usually easier to find 8" wheels and they are wide enough to handle larger rear tires as well so pick up a set of four.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I tried 8X15's W/4.50" backspacing up front on my '68 and the wheels scraped on the upper control arms.  I went with 7X15's W4.25" backspacing and have had no problems.  BTW it was the WHEELS rubbing, not the tires.  The tires are 235/60/15's.     Bob

Well that's interesting. In the million threads we've had discussing wheel/tire sizes I don't remember ever reading anything like that. Yet another thing that I'll have to measure closely...

Right. I have 15 x 7 Centerlines on the front of my '68 with a 3-3/8" backspace, no rub at all with 235/60 tires. The 245/18's on the front of the '69 ARE a little wider with the 8" wheel.

YES, very interesting! I used to have a bum set of 14" Magnums that rubbed ever so slightly on the edge of the control arms, but NEVER heard of a 15" wheel doing that!!  :o

Thanks for all the replies! :2thumbs:

I want 8" because I think it looks better with more depth in the weel!
Maybe I should go with 245/55 instead :scratchchin:

Yes I know I spell terrible!!   (missed that day in school)

I have some factory aluminum wheels off of a Mirada that has 15x7 with a 4" backspace I believe with 235/60/15's on the front of my 69 Charger with the factory big 11 3/4 disc brake conversion and they don't clear the upper control arms by much there is only a little over a 1/4" clearance between the wheel and the upper control arm.

I know this thread is a little old now but I still haven't bought my new wheels.
Turns out centerline don't have them in 15/8"  just 7 or 8,5"
Now it doesent have to be centerline, they just have to look like them!

Does any one know where I can by 15/8 centerline copy's?

thanks!!

Larry got me some Goodrich Radial T/A's. They're P235/70 R15's for the front and P255/70 R15's for the back. he ordered 15 x 8, 4.5 b.s. wheels for the superbee i'm buying from him and he's painting the rims blue to match the car. we decided on the back spacing after we read this thread. i don't think they'll rub . Thanks a lot for the input´s guys!!

What kind of wheels does Larry sell?
Do you think he has centerline copy's?

I can only find 7 ore 8,5" wide.
And I have 7" on my Volvo so..
8,5" will be to much in the front I think
