On a similar note, my friend messaged me from the race saying that three Petty cars were driven around the track before the race...one of them was a wing car  :drool5:

Chris G.

Congrats!  :2thumbs:

To all our newer Charger members, your car has just won the Daytona 500.   :icon_smile_wink:

Thanks Chris....Oh I was watching. I know the race car realy has nothing to do with the new "Charger" But it sure warms the heart to see "something"  carry the Dodge flag to victory, and second, oh and 5th,6th,7th,8th!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Best 1/4 run so far 12.7 @ 108 mph

Whoa, slow down Randy, the car that won is a NEW Charger. When people see what car won, they will want to see what version they can buy, and I am sure they won't be disappointed by what they see.  :yesnod:

Heck, the Haters can hit Ford (Fusion), Toyota (Camry) and Chevy (Impala) to see what street versions they offer of their Nascars. It's not even a comparison.  :2thumbs:

Yeah baby. That threw some cold water on ol' DW, "we're going to have a toyota drag race to the finish" ::)
Kurt Busch was very gracious in his post race interview. You have to give him credit for not bailing on Newman and trying to get the win for himself.

30 yrs ago :scratchchin: ...would it have been a Magnum ?.... Nope,  I just googled this info Burton 2002 Dodge Intrepid, then nothing till Petty in 74 and 73=Dodge Chargers

Best 1/4 run so far 12.7 @ 108 mph

pettyfan43

Actually it would have been the King in 73.

The only Magnum to win at Daytona was Kyle Petty in 79 in the ARCA race.

Pretty crazy it was so long ago and now dodge gets a 1...2....finish

Not so long, Ward Burton won the 500 in 02! The year Marlin got out of his car and started tugging at the fender.

I thought it was a great finish and hats off to Kurt Busch for hanging with his wing man. Made the Old man happy. Penske had never won a plate race except for Rusty winning a Bud Shoot out once. No offense but, I was happy that a Toyota didn't end up winning the 50th Daytona 500. Would have been something really wrong with that imo  :scratchchin:  Toyota will win races this year but I'm glad it wasn't this one.

I agree they may win a few. We already have a bunch of Toyota band wagon jumpers. Let's leave them out of this thread....I am tired of hearing they are made here in the states.... :blahblah: and then they go nothing is made in America anymore so keep buying Jap and China crap  :blahblah: and it never ends.

I saw that on the pre-race ceremony.. It was someone's personal Superbird with a "43" on it.. None of the real Petty Superbirds had a vinyl top...  It was a cool site seeing those Petty Blue beasts..............  Great race other than they are all shaped the same....

It's hard to believe that a Dodge really hasn't won a whole lot there, only 4.. Two with Petty's Chargers ('72/'73, Burton's '02 and now Newman's)... there's been a lot of Mopars, but mostly Plymouth...

Petty's 72 win was a Road Runner, he switched mid year to Chargers and actually switched back and forth during the last half of 72.
