  Welcome to the site.  I'm not the best at this but there are many here that know this stuff 100%  My understanding is the R/T cars came with the 440 HP stamped on the pad.  HP being High performance I would think? A non HP block is the same as the HP block and the difference in power form the 440 350hp and 440 HP 375 hp for the R/T cars was the heads and cam.  Maybe it was possible to have an R/T without the HP?  Got me?    You can try matching up the cast date on the block to the build date of the car.  You'll get many great accurate answers here.  :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

All R/T's came with HP stamped on the pad. Main difference was the cam profile exhaust manifolds and carb. All big blocks in 69 came with the 906 heads.

Is this supposed to be a numbers matching car? There should be a VIN stamping on the top rear of the engine next to the oil sending unit I believe. This will tell you if it's the original motor. See if you can read the casting numbers/markings on the sides of the block and post them here as well. Can you tell us all the information that is stamped on the pad there at the front (the one where it should say "HP")? For a 68 R/T it should at least say "D440" but there will also be some other numbers that will help determine what's in there.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
