The rules for Nascar said 500 were supposed to be made...Ma Mopar said they made 503.....but general concensus is that only 392 really got made.

I haven't ever seen anything that MaMopar wrote that says they built 503 of the 500's. Now MaMopar says they built 503 of the Daytona's.

Earliest Paper I have from chrysler says that they built 392 of the Charger 500's. I have been told several times that there is a shipment list showing over 570 different VIN's for 500's, but considering the person who is "supposedly" in possession of the list will not allow anyone else to see the list, I don't buy it.

I can account for 243 of the cars being built for sure though. So until I or someone else locates more than 392 different Charger 500's, I'll stick to that number.

Danny, in that same spirit.. There's the listing of Daytonas... Now, if you go down the list, isn't there an abundant number of VIN's that were cancelled? My point is, there may have been some pre-production sequence of numbers, but the actual ones that got produced isn't the same....

And there is this early document on the 69 charger 500 claiming to be only available with the Hemi

Yea...I realized the "503" number I gave was for the Daytona's....not the 500's

I'm thinking the same thing troy. I wonder if the "list" of 500's includes many canceled orders. Because your right if you go down the list of Daytona's (shipement list that is) that shows the colors of the stripes, it also list some VIN's to cars that weren't made. And you also can note that it list the same VIN some times multiple times. IE if it was slated to go to one dealership, but wound up having the order canceled and then the same car going to another dealership.

Personally I'm still sticking with the 392 number.

Side note, the new number in my ever growing list is 246 by the way. :)
