So are we gonna shoot down this terminal Satellite?

"President Bush, acting on the advice of his national security advisers, has decided to attempt to shoot down a malfunctioning spy satellite that is expected to crash to the Earth by early next month."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/02/14/ST2008021403174.html

This is a first isn't it?..
They think they might be liable if it lands on some unsuspecting bushman's head?..
Or maybe just gonna try out their Satt. busting capabilities,
Maybe they wanna put the fear into all these other countries with Satellites.
there's gotta be a interesting story behind this...

Interesting!: :scratchchin: Maybe their trying to put fear in Iran and other threatening countries, that we have the capability? :shruggy::popcrn:

I dont believe the whole "toxic" excuse! I think there is something on that satellite the US government doesnt want anyone to see... spying on allies again maybe?  :shruggy:

Well they never tell us any more than they want us to know so, that being said we can only wait and see what happens. That thing could be anything. could have a nuke planted on it that is gonna hit hilary clinton for all I know :shruggy:

This whole thing will be a BLAST! :D

Especially if it does turn out to be a nuke and hit hilary clinton..

The toxic fuel excuse is pretty weak because all fuel is toxic by definition. And vaporizing the fuel over the planet isn't going to detoxify it. I think it's funny that they are worried about an "uncontrolled re-entry" because that has happened hundreds of times with junk we've placed in orbit. How much toxic fuel did the Space Shuttles Columbia and Challenger expel when they exploded inside the atmosphere? I didn't hear any of any dire health threats regarding toxic fuel then.

Basically it seems to me they don't want anyone gaining access to any stored information the satellite might be carrying. No big deal. It's pretty typical for the govt. to say they're doing one thing when the agenda involves something else. Why create a bunch of interest among your enemies by being complately forthright about spy satellites of all things?

If the Satellite lands and injures someone, the person that was injured will probably apologize to Bush on TV.

China shot down one of their own satellites a few months ago.
Loaded up that level of atmosphere with 1000's of space debris.
Maybe we are just trying to show them we can do the same ?

The article says they are shooting it done at a lower elevation to prevent the space debris from staying in orbit around the planet. I can guarantee you there is something on there they don't want us to see because the majority of the satellite would burn up during re-entry.

Bush probably heard it has weapons of mass destruction hidden in it

Funny that last night i saw for the first time an Air Force Commercial where this dude comes out and says the Air Forces space program is just as big as NASA and while they (NASA) maybe does three launches a year, he's got three launches this month,..  i know that in the intrest of National Security and all that they don't publicise much of what goes up, or down for that matter,..
But the story on this targeted Spy satellight is that the Navy is gonna shoot it down... anyhow i bet there's a lot more we know nothing about..
I wonder if my phones tapped yet?  :scratchchin:

The first time I saw a story on the news of this thing coming down, they said something to the effect that 'it would be a bummer if it landed in unfriendly territory, due to the classified content on board'. Then I see this story last night, babbling something about toxic fuel as the reason to shoot it down. Sure it is...what a crock! :smilielol:

There always has been & always will be things like this that the government keeps from the public...but do they seriously think it's necessary to make up rediculous stories to feed us sheeple? We citizens should be just fine knowing that they don't want classified things falling into the hands of countries that would mean to do us harm. No big deal, just stop feeding us dumb excuses.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

John_Kunkel

Not a first, it was first done way back in 1985.

On Sept. 13, 1985 Maj. Wilbert D. "Doug" Pearson, the director of the F-15 ASAT CTF, took off on a crucial mission that required him to fly an extraordinarily exacting profile in order to arrive at a precise firing location at exactly the right time. Flying at Mach 1.22 some 200 miles west of Vandenberg Air Force Base, he executed a 3.8g pull-up to a climb angle of 65 degrees. The missile automatically launched itself at 38,100 ft. Minutes later, orbiting peacefully 345 miles above the Pacific Ocean, an obsolete satellite named P78-1 was suddenly shattered into pieces. Pearson had become the world's first pilot ever to shoot down a satellite. To this day, now Maj. Gen. Doug Pearson remains, as Air Force Materiel Command Commander Gen. Lester Lyles recently observed, the first and only "space ace".
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

So..............is this a Sport Satellite or just a plain ole Satellite? :scratchchin: I had an old Satellite thats orbit was eroding at one time........had to put a quart of oil a week in it to keep it going! :rotz: Then it burned up on re-entry one night. :RantExplode:

I just don't want to read about someone slamming another kid on this site. I was trying to give constructive criticism. We have a couple of "old timers" on here that sometimes don't have patience for our youthful members(and can be pretty mean).  ::)

DUH! I'm quite aware what a air craft carrier is! Not nice to call me out you bad girl!! :nono: But I forgive you because I'm in a good mood. It's my B-day!(Although everybody forgot, again!) :'(
If you read my post I was talking about the weather, and how our guys in Vegas have been flying ALL day despite the weather! I was only talking about the Big -C130's? I think that's what they are. But they are awesome. :2thumbs: Sorry if I don't know the terminology, but I tried!

By the way, how is Hubby? Send me a P.M. if you want. I sent prayers for him! :yesnod: Are you going to be able to come for Mopars? Our offer still stands! :2thumbs:
