Discussion on the "V88" stripe delete cars.

I own a V88 coded car and I was thinking about adding a stripe when I start the resto. Anyone else do this, or feel the same way against the R/T emblem on the rear 1/4 panel? I think the stripe is much more sporty and gives it that distinction unique to the 2nd Gen Charger. Now I know this may take away from the cars authenticity however, there is no way the car will be sold anytime soon, I want to have my fun with it. The numbers matching drive train will be pulled, protected and put away in the corner of the garage, and a nicely built/stroked 440-727 doner drive train with be going in to take the abuse. Another thing Im considering swaping out is the Blue interior in favor of black, again somthing that can be changed out in the future if I want the maximum return out of it.

Anyone else do little changes like these on their car for the sake of personal preference, rather than keeping it all original?

Of course it is up to you and from the sounds of it, you don't plan on selling it anytime soon so why not just go ahead make the car the way you want it.  The stripe, with some work can always be removed - it's not like your going to tub the car or anything.

I wouldn't worry so much about what others think and if you do find yourself at a car show and some fella is inspecting your fender tag, getting ready to list off all that is incorrect simply tell him you added the stripe 'cause you liked it.

Ahh...words to live by!

My R/T is a V88 coded car as well...I added the stripe..

...added the 440 engine hood callouts
...added a six-way seat
...added the tic-toc-tach
...added a reverse manual valvebody & even changed the shifter decal to match
....added the 68 map pocket bezels
...added the 68 headlight surround bezels
....added electronic ignition, voltage regulator ++++many other small personal touches
All for personalization

The only thing I kind of regret doing, now that I know what I know about fender tags & options etc, is the color change.  The car should be R6 red.  next time in the future when the car needs a resto again, it will be going back to the original color.

Bottom line is its YOUR car...YOU do what you want

Yep, i think the stripe looks nice on the 2nd gens. I have a 3rd gen and plan on totally disregarding the fender tag and doing what i want to it (engine and tranny are already not original, do you really think i would want to put back a 318?) . If you dont plan on buying a car to restore and then flip to sell for a profit, then its totally up to you.  Screw what everyone else has to say, let them worry about there own car.

I'm in the middle of having my '69 restored now. It calls for a tan interior but it came with an all new black interior and I don't want to spend the money re-buying another interior for it. I figure it's my car and if I ever sell it, the next guy can change it if he wants. Besides, getting black interior parts seems easier anyway and it's probably why the person I got it from was going in that direction too.

I am having it painted it's original T5 Copper and going with the Tan top it calls for with the black stripe it came with. I don't think it's wrong to make changes to the cars. It's not going to be a concourse car. Enjoy it any way you like it.  :2thumbs:

I added the same things above and plan on adding the stripe.

If anything, the person who would buy the car will like the fact that the stripe and other stuff are added. I know it would have been a plus to me!

Are they reproducing the tan vinyl top material now?

Personally don't like the V88 option, used to own a 69 R/T, red, but someone before me had already put a stripe on, and that was about 20 years ago. I would always put the stripe on it.

Chris G.

I have a stripe delete car as well, but I added a stripe last year. It had a white stripe way back in the day, and then was bare backed for probably about 10 years, and now has a black stripe. Like everone else mentioned, it's your ride, so have some fun with it. I doubt anyone will care if it's fender tag correct.  :Twocents:

My car is a v88 car also, and i like the clean look of the emblems, but if my car had come with the stripe, it would be going back on. heck i like em either way.

When did ya do that, Brian? It looks good. :yesnod:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Just ask them where they're car is , because you want to see how it's done.
I used that line a couple years back, turns out he didn't even own a car.

I guess I'm the minority.  I have two V88 cars, and both are staying that way.  Not that there is something wrong with a striped car.  :coolgleamA:

Well DUH for me, I was thinking you put the stripe on, not off. I guess I was asleep at the keyboard yesterday.  :oye:
Now that I think about it, I remember when you removed it...duh. That's good though, I've always liked the V88 badges too. :icon_smile_cool:

My original 69 R/T S/E was a Q5 non vinyl top strip delete black bucket interior. That would be one clean Charger if it still existed.

 :scratchchin:

I was quizzed on on the side R/T emblem for '69 Chargers last night at a local cruise-in.    I failed.   :'(

I'd seen that some '69s had the side R/T but didn't realize it was an authorized factory option for the stripe.  I knew that some B-body R/Ts had the side emblems, just didn't know for sure about the Charger.    :icon_smile_blackeye:

Damn, revolk my card....back to the books for me!

Some guys on here added a plain tail (non-RT) stripe and placed the RT emblems over the stripe and that has a cool look too. Maybe some of them will post pics. I seem to recall one member has a green 69 with a black stripe and the red RT emblems really look cool over that! I believe the car has a black vinyl top and crager wheels?  :2thumbs:

I feel a lot more liberated about the idea of moving away from stock, because I own a 3rd gen.  Especially since it's just a stock 73.  I've got some crazy ideas though.   :icon_smile_big:

I have one car with stripe and one without. I like them both ways. But, a stripe can always be removed, so no biggie.

Mine is a V88 Stripe Delete.

It matters not whether I prefer the stripe or the emblems ? the car is the same 46 years later as the day it rolled off the assembly line, which it's fender tag and broadcast sheet verify..... so I can't really go changing anything whether I want to or not ?
Same goes for tires, wheels, carb, dizzy, and on and on...... best just left alone.

69 OUR/TEA

My  taste is on certain color cars stripes look good and some other colors look better with stripe delete having the emblem there . I do not care for when they are both .
B5 blue w/ either white or black stripe
T3,T5,T7 with white stripe  :drool5: , or stripe delete
R4 , R6 black stripe , or stripe delete
Y3 black stripe
F3,F5,F8 white stripe
W1 black or red stripe

X9 no stripe , must be V88 !!!!! My 3X9 R/T SE is V88 , if it was a stripe car , it would have been changed .

These are just my taste in flavors .
