good bye GTX... UPDATE.. it's home

I've kept this pretty quiet up until now, but after today, the GTX will officially be someone else's problem. I should receive final payment today. I'll then send out the title and BoS making it official. It's a done deal.

Unofficially, I still have to get the Dana 60 back under it after having it rebuilt. I'll do that tomorrow. Then I have to get it out of my garage. No word from the transport company yet on that issue.

I refer to the car as a "problem", but at this point it's all sorted out. It's a very good car. I just have got too much money tied-up in it. The new owner should be very pleased with it though.

My wife refers to the car as our "rebound car". It got me through the selling of the Charger, but we could never truly love it.

Regardless, I'll miss it a little bit. It was starting to grow on me... kind of like a leach sucking me dry.

Meanwhile I'm still chasing leads on a replacement 71 or 72 Plymouth. I've had a few trickling-in, in response to both my "wanted" ads, and word of mouth. With the exception of one car that I came up a few dollars short on, nothing real promising has surfaced yet that matches my criteria.

The cars do seem to be out there though, so patience should pay-off. I have no real deadline; although as spring approaches I'm likely to grow increasingly impatient. I'm also considering going on the Hot Rod Power Tour again this year, but getting a car tour-worthy in the next couple of months would be a tall order.

My wish list includes (pretty much in order of importance):
·   Bucket seats/décor group
·   No green, B5 blue (except maybe with white interior), or "earth tone" colors.
·   Air Grabber
·   4 Speed
·   340-powered

I'd probably compromise on any single one of those items (other than buckets). Looking for a very nice, affordably priced, rust-free, driver-quality car.

Feel free to drop me a PM or email with any leads.

Does this mean you'll have an empty square in your sig photo until a new ride appears?

there is a guy in my town selling a 72 hemi orange roadrunner with 340 4spd, black bucket seats no air grabber, only problem is its in pieces. he started restoring it and lost interest, i think he wanted 7or 8 thousand for it, but everything is there to put it back together.looked at it about six months ago but to deep in the charger right now to buy another project.by the way, it's in washington state.

471_Magnum

Guess I should have also stated that the closer to southern Indiana, the better!

That '72 Hemi Orange car sounds interesting, but that's a LONG way from home. Hook me up with some pics, would ya?

Why did you sell your Charger in the first place?

I will see what i can do, dont know for sure where the guy is keeping the car right now. but i can tell you if i had the extra money when i saw it, i would have picked it up then.

I actually thought about buying it back , for about 10 seconds. A little piece of me misses it. But having a car to do and no cash flow does not make a new car purchase go good. Besides I'll be on the hunt for a diesel megacab either later this year or early next

I've actually been in contact with the seller on the black/blue car. That car likely exceeds my budget target, but not by much. I might be in the hunt.

The V-code cars are WAY over my budget. The Green one exceeds my budget as well, and is a LONG way from home. The 340-4spd car is sold.

Fact is, I've pretty much got the internet resources covered. If it's listed on the internet, I've probably screened it already.

I've been on the phone every night chasing leads and networking.

The big break will likely come via word of mouth. If you've got a buddy with a nice 71 or 72 Plymouth that might be interested in selling, hook us up.

Let's just say mid to high twenties for the right car that's ready to roll. That budget includes transport and taxes.

That said, I'd prefer to spend less. The only real requirement is that it must be rust free. I don't mind potentially having to shoot a coat of paint, but no bondo buggies or rust buckets.

I would have preferred a 4-speed. With the exception of one 72 340 Road Runner though (which came-up $88 short on  :brickwall: ), all 4 speed cars I found were bench seat cars. Good 4 speed car are just real hard to find.

I don't foresee this car getting a stick. My current daily driver is a stick, and that pretty much satisfies my shift-for-yourself-jones. It's not in the budget anyway.

It will get power steering and disc brakes almost immediately. That white stripe will probably get deleted as well. It's not coded for it, and I think it will look better without it.

Down the road a bit further, it will probably get A/C.

Ultimately, it will get an Air Grabber hood, 'cause that will just look evil.

And if (God forbid) I blow up the 440, it will get a rip snortin' stroker motor.

Got the car home Saturday evening after driving 1980 miles in 49 hours.

Trip was long, but largely uneventful.

Car turns out to be a little less than advertised, but not bad by any means. It's the kind of situation I have come to expect when shopping for a car online. My expectations were adjusted accordingly.

Haven't done much with it yet. It has pretty much sat in the garage since Saturday. I've got a fairly extensive to-do list that I will attack in the coming weeks, including installation of disc brakes, new wheels & tires, and some sanding & buffing. After that, I'll do the big unveiling and post a bunch of pictures.

It's an original U-code auto. Now has 6 BBL installed. Don't know the specifics on the motor, but it's obviously got a good cam in it (nice lope). Has headers and X-pipe exhaust as well.

Numbers matching, but no broadcast sheet.

Has some bubbles in an older repaint, and some dings &scratches, but otherwise solid. One patch in LH quarter. Nice driver quality or easy resto.

Very low option. Manual steering and drum brakes. Obviously, a unique color combination as well (TX9 w/GB5 interior).

Runs good and drives nice.

I'd like to trade down or even for a 71 or 72 Road Runner. I have a strong preference for a 4 speed and Air Grabber. Must be an attractive color combination (nothing too weird or earth-toned). No column shift or bench seat. Numbers matching NOT important.

Looking to trade even or down.

Maybe.

I really don't consider it to be a keeper. Like the ad says, turned out not to be really what I wanted.

I'm going to play around with it in the interim. She'll do for now.

Damn that car looks fast just sitting there. My friend has a rare '72 like so, his is a GTX 440 4 speed. Not sure how many were built, but he doesn't drive it much anymore for that reason. Wish I had the funds to grab the runner/gtx. Good luck w/your next ride.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Sounds good too.

Switching out the 14" Rallyes for the 17" Telstars made a world of difference. Just about everybody I consulted advised me against the Telstars. I think I proved them all wrong.

If/when I do sell or trade the car, I'm keeping the wheels.

Unfortunately, the paint and body work is 10-20 ft quality, which on a black car is tough to deal with. I'm going to break out the 1200 wet-or-dry and the buffer and see I've I can't improve things. Unfortunately, that won't take out the waves.

I'm fixing a few minor electrical issues now.

I've got a set of front disc brakes for it, but I'm debating whether or not to go to the trouble if the car won't be sticking around. I'll be making that decision this weekend.

I'd leave them off until you decide unless you think it'll improve the selling price of the car enough to pay for them.

..........you gonna end up just buying a 69 Charger again   :yesnod:
Greetings from Belgium, the beer country

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Yeah. It's a dilema. It really stops like sh!t right now though, and desparately needs an alignment.

You might be on to something.  :scratchchin:

Nah. Even though these third gen GTXs have given me fits, they've definitely grown on me.

I'll never say never, but I won't be hunting for another Charger anytime soon.

Now if a smoking deal falls out of the sky and lands in my lap, I won't hestitate to take advantage.

Quit driving so stupid fast all the time.  You're always on the ragged edge of control and you really need to learn how to relax and enjoy the ride.
