Hey gang, just proves that finding a needle in a haystack is possible.I bought a matching number EV2  AAR in 02,came with the one owner orig title, but no fender tags.Guy,(flipper),I bought it from says he knew who had the tags, but was not going to give them up.Don't know the whole story why,but whatever.I had the car documented, and had the tags made, but the only wrong item is my sequence number, because I also do not have the BS(car had the wrong one in it),therefore is not correct.Wrote it off as to never to find or obtain, but as I do my e-bay searches for the cars I own, last sun,bam there is my fender tag with my vin # cut off.The second I saw it I knew it was mine as to where the auction is coming from, same cluster of towns in the area of that state.Orig owners address was blocks from where I sent the money to buy the car,and now the fender tag is blocks from that!!!!Six years later I have the chance to obtain!!! Of course I won it,received yesterday, and to put it in concrete, when the vin was cut off, they left about 1/16th of an inch of the numbers still exposed!!!!! :2thumbs:In person ,when reading it from the backside, you can clearly see the tops of the numbers of my vin!!!I have many ideas speculating why he cut it off,but I am just glad to have it now. These have been a great past few weeks for me,don't know what I did to deserve it,but first as you all have seen in my post,I found my dream charger ,a loaded 69 triple black R/T SE,then 1hot68(Brian),set me up with a friend of his who had a 69 440 HP date coded for this car, thanks again Brian, and then now this!!!Here is a pic of how I got the tag....

that is really incredible. i HATE people that take fender tags off cars. if you do let it go with the car. i will never understand why people do that. it is useless without the car!

As the rightful owner, I think you should have gotten it free. Should be illegal to buy/sell those things, just like VIN plates.

Amazing that you found it!  I took mine off just so it cant be stolen.  I keep it with the title and it wont be going back on the car as long as I own it.

I disagree, it only states the options the car came with, it has no legal use.  Not that it doesn't suck when it is separated from the car, but as far as making it illegal, there is no reason for that.

agree . I guess it only matters to people with the big $$$ cars . I 'm not trying to insult anyone . I 'm just not that impressed with the numbers thing . People worry about option codes and tags but then so call " restore " a car and leave off or add options as they please anyway .
But hey if that tag makes you happy then congrats !!!   :2thumbs:

Legal or not ...he was obviously trying to hide something by cutting of the VIN number....and should burn in Mopar Hell.  :flame:

I usually take the fender tags off of my cars if they are being stored outside for any period of time.  They go into a nice firesafe that I have well hidden somewhere.  The reason I do this is simple: some of the locals have been known to swipe them and try to use the missing item as leverage when making an offer on the car (I have heard of this happening by someone who did this).  I don't want to give anyone a chance at doing that to me so I usually take them off, make fender tag rubbings, register them with TDC and then into the safe they go.  When the Charger is moved into indoor longterm storage, it regains the fender tag it came with and I still keep a fender tag rubbing in the safe just incase it does get swiped (so a correct repo can be made)........

As for the ebay purchase, nice find.  I got lucky a few years ago when searching for a project as I came across a 70 Charger parts car that had the orginal doors to my 1970 Charger RT installed.  (My 70 RT was partially parted out years ago and I have been looking for the orginal pieces since I got it.  I had heard that a local guy had the doors but did not want to give them up because they were on a 70 Charger that he had.)  I bought the car for $700, promptly removed the doors for storage, and stripped the rest of the usable parts.  The shell might still be restored later on as it does not have major rust/damage issues.  The second highest bidder had plans of flying in, cutting up the car and having the pieces shipped back to the east coast.  I was just happy that I could get the doors back.  Now if I could only get it's fender tag back............

thats awsome you found it. for those who think fender tags are bs if didnt have mine for 69 charger I would have never found out it was a special ordered car. I bought it off a guy in odessa texas he new it was a completely numbers matching car but never ran the fender tag, when I bought it I had it ran. another thing I agree to some extent about people who worry about numbers then modify but at the same time part distributers offer safer upgrades and I feel that is the way to go!!

I'd play the lotto sounds like you got some luck. I took my tag off to decode it since it's so rusted I'll keep it off maybe get a new one.

Congrats on the finding of your tag. It's a small world after all. I recently sent my '69 off to the body shop but, not before taking the fender tag off of it. I wasn't necessarily looking for a numbers match car when I got it and that doesn't really matter much to me anyway but, it does matter to allot of people when they set out to buy a car and seems to add to the cars value whether we agree with that or not. Yes, I put mine away too and probably won't put it back on unless I sell the car which is unlikely anytime soon. I'll probably get a copy made and put that on it.

Your AAR is now more valueable as a result of your find. I think it sucks you had to buy it back but very happy you did get it back..  :2thumbs:

Congrats to you, you must be livin' right these days! :icon_smile_cool:
You didn't have to pay $400 or anything equally rediculous for it, did you? Regardless, it's cool that you were able to obtain another piece of it's pedigree. :2thumbs:

BTW, any pics of the car? :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
