Do you hoard cars and parts?

Just wondering how many do this and the reasons why. Do you keep cars for years, even though you know you probably can't afford to restore it? MsMopar

Ask Trav and his six million Mopars :D. I wish I had as many cars as him. BUT for now...all I have is one '69 and the parts I need for it. I do have a few extra parts here and there but nothing much.

i do hoard cars i guess. but i don't hoard cars i'll never get to just to do it. i sell the ones i know i'm not capable of fixing or have the time for.. and as for the reasons i have so many. simple. i LOVE mopars, specifically 68-70 dodge chargers. and dumb as it may sound,  when i was about 20 i said i would love to have a charger for every day of the week. just for the hell of it. kind of a personal goal. well i did it. and i love every minute of it. i have been very fortunate

Well atleast you store them in decent places..unlike some guys who just buy all the cars and then let them sit in bushes and mud. :brickwall:

I don't think I can accept the fact I am not capable or will never have the time for a car to justify selling it. Well, maybe that's not totally true, I sold my 4-speed Oily Doily 69 but I still miss driving it. Always hoped I would be able to get one in better shape. MsMopar

The70RT

I have and still do. The only way to find out if you can finish them is to do it. I have so many parts for various cars that I have ran out of room. I bought a 68 Chevelle last weekend..........yep to fund the Charger. Yep I am a flipper  :whistling: The parts will be flipped on this one because it got wiped out and is being put out of it's misery.

I guess we are somewhat alike Travis. When I was a teenager, I told my dad I'm going to have a different charger to drive for everyday of the week also. I did it as well, total of 9 at one time. Man, those were the days. 24 years ago now I did that. The chevelle thing, heck, we all have our downfalls. I did as well.
And yes, I hoard parts, I'm just not going to say here right now what it is that I have, my wife might read this later, ha-ha.

I hoard parts because you never know when you might need something, and I don't want to be subjected to the kind of prices I see at the swap meets today.  :eek2:  MsMopar

I know you guys might hate me for this but I like all old cars. I would own a 70 to 72 Chevelle in a minute. I like old Camaros too. I would definitely own a 69 to 70 Mach 1 Mustang. WHO can firget the old Trans Am. I respect anyone who rebuilds and shows off his old car. That keeps people thinking about looking out for all of us old car guys. Don't get me wrong, the 1969 Charger is the most beautiful car ever made in the history of the world, but I would own almost any old car. I do like any Charger of any generation. That means the 66 to 74, the REAL ones. I welcome any old car guy that truly speaks in car tongue and not just a wannabe. MOPAR FIRST but the more the merrier. I'm finished with my  :Twocents: back to our regularly scheduled program.

YEP, I have one 70 charger but I have two sets of fenders?  I look at it this way, if can find the parts often I can use them to trade for what I want as well. so  I do hoard some things.

In some ways, you could call me a car/parts hoarder, I even have parts to car models that I don't collect.  I have been saving stuff for years when I could buy them on the cheap, but due to my college career, I have not had much time/$ to put back into their restorations.  With a few exceptions (true parts cars), I intend to restore every car that I own for a future museum that I have planned on building (a dream of mine for many years).  Now that I am almost done with my Ph.D. requirements, I can get started on the work/$ needed for this to come true..........

I used to have quite a bit, but have since sold off most everything that I won't be needing for my 68'.  At any given time I could have anywhere from a semi trailer full of vintage/antique motorcycle parts, but they get sold pretty quick.  Gerenal rule of thumb is if I don't have plans to used it for a personal build, I get rid of it pretty quick in order to buy more stuff I can use.  Not interested in owning a junkyard/

chargerboy69

I do not.

I just do not have the extra space to hoard. But if I did have the space. I would not sell $#!t.  ;)

Well I did for many years. Held on to over a dozen 69 charger grilles, and finally parted with them this spring. Hmmmmm, wonder what else I have stuffed up in the attic?

Ah never mind, just means now I have some space to put the new stuff that I want up there.

I'll get ahold of you later on when I have something done on my cars (and some time to spare).  A few of my car friends back home have mentioned about getting a museum together as a means to store their cars during the times they are not using them.  I remember Jerry J. used to make some $ off of the museum attendence that paid for the upkeep of his collection (heating, electricity, water bills).  One of my good friends collects second gen Chargers (he only has four in his set) and third gen camaros, as well as a stash of seven 1941 Buicks.  He absolutely loves 1941 Buicks as they were the first mass produced American car that was advertised as being able to do 100 mph.  I think four of his have the multiple carborator option and I know at least one of them has a front seat heater (rare back then).  He is only missing a convertible to really complete his set (he has found a limosine to buy later on).  He wants to show them next to his Chargers as they were the musclecars of a generation before the baby boomers.........

I hoard all kinds of crap, but I've learned to cut back drastically. That doesn't mean I am getting rid of everything I currently have, just that I don't "look too hard" at finding more stuff. My attic is full, my basement is full, my garage is full, my second floor of the garage is full, my shed is full, & so are all the shelves, closets, & spaces in between my furniture. Fortunately, I am not yet squeezing through aisles to get the the shitter or my bed.   :D

Close Rene, it's one of Ted's Daytona noses. If you look to the left of it, you can see a pair of '70 Charger fenders. They've already been modified at the bottom front. In the far right, rear corner, there is a box with the Z brackets, headlight doors, & more in it. Thats only one room up there, there are two more that are larger & packed with all kinds of stuff.   :o

i've had up to 12 cars in my yard at one time or another.and truck loads of parts for them.i'm a sucker for the cheap project cars.but i am changing my ways.i'm 39 and have two small kids.i've got two hemi charger projects(66,69) and a 68 charger rt 440 4 spd driver and a 70 charger rt 440 sixpack driver.if i want to get the hemi cars on the road before i'm 50,i have to focus.i was frustrated at having all these cars and no time or money to do anything with them.so i sold most of them off and now have more money(still no time) for them.i miss them, but realize its for a greater good.i'm currently ebaying anything i don't need to get the extra dollars.so i'm like a recovering alcoholic,i'm making progress but at any time i could slip back to where i was.lol

Hemihead,
That's the whole idea of hoarding, I hate to sell anything, no matter how much it's worth.  People bug me all the time for parts but they know I don't want to sell. I don't have much and most is in so-so condition but when I die, someones going to have fun picking though the stuff.

I would rather trade for parts then sell. Now, if I was really in a bind for money, I might, but I would make the price high so it was worth the sacrifice. It would most likely end up in the hands of a flipper anyway. If it's not Mopar, I'll sell it no problem.  :D  MsMopar

I just sold off a bunch of rare 71 cuda parts (shaker parts/six packs/fenders etc.) It was more of losing the storage space in my parents garage where they have sat since 1985 then wanting to sell them off. However, I considered it a tradeoff since it gave me the needed money to put towards my charger.

Now that I am almost done with my Ph.D. requirements, I can get started on the work/$ needed for this to come true..........
chad I want to build a racing musuem and muscle car museum also here at the salvage yard / I-70 speedway
  We should get together !!!!!!

He wants to show them next to his Chargers as they were the musclecars of a generation before the baby boomers.........
yeah i figured to have long term storage for cars in the back , People always need a place to store there car ( winter for sure)
Then give them a price break on the rent if it goes up front in the museum show room ?
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

At one point I had alot of 64-67 GTO stuff in the basement. Sold off alot of the interior stuff  and accidentally left some behind when I moved :eek2: Still have some sheetmetal left and a few grilles.

Now?  Working man with a full life.  No.  Many years ago I was one of the originall Mr moms.  I was so bored as a guy raising a kid that I started getting into mini bike collecting and restoring as a hobby to keep my sanity.  At one time I had 32 mini bikes.  When I went back to work full time, I sold them all.  With this Charger, no extra parts at all, I give away or sell what I have.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I've got a whole bunch of stuff stashed.

But it's not random.  Everything in the "hoard" is pointed towards a short list of specific future projects.

And I try not to hoard anything that's reproduced in good quality.
I try to save the storage space & money for stuff that's only gonna get more expensive and harder to find as time goes on.
