i see on moparts, dc.com etc. seems like a lot of our good members are selling their personal NICE chargers/mopars right now.. like brian's(1hot68), california doug's, etc etc.. what is the reason? is it the economic crunch? is it being bored with the car? if you have put your car up for sale recently, what's the reasoning? inquiring minds want to know

its the economy, money's tight and some things have to go, but thats just my opinion.
I sold my first Mopar because of that and I regret it still. I told myself this time that if things get bad and I start thinking about selling my car, its going into storage somewhere and I'll try and forget that I even have it (maybe my wife will forget about it too)

I noticed that too. Theres people on here where Im like...there never gonna sell there car...and then it shows up for sale and its shocking.

Owning a Musclecar has been a Fad and some people may be getting weary of it and moving on to the next " in " thing . I'm not saying it is anyone in particular . Don't blast me .

I had to sell mine cause I lost my job, and needed the money to survive til I get back to work. Not only that, I had been thinking of selling it anyway, because it cost so much to restore a car now as it is, I'll most likely never be able to afford another muscle car of any kind. I want one bad, but the money and the cost of living is putting it out of my reach :icon_smile_dissapprove:  So, now for the near future, I'm going to work on restoring my '93 Dakota, and lifting it.

From what I have seen and heard about the economy in certain parts of the United States right now I'm guessing folks would rather keep their home than their Charger.

Great time for the Canadians to be buying real estate and muscle cars in the United States right now as the prices of both are down and our dollar is worth more than the US dollar now, something I have never seen in my lifetime.

Blown70

Well, when it comes to my cars truely they are for sale at anytime.  They do have there price.

I have considered selling my 70 as that is a HUGE project, and would be better suited for someone who is a DRAG racer only.

However, if the 70 goes the 69 will not be going anywhere....

Charger-Bodie

Just wanted to chime in here for a minute. The only reason I had mine listed for sale is that Im a glutten for punishment.  :brickwall: I find myself bored cause im not working on a Charger for myself.

Shakey is right about the economy though, But Ive been lucky so far and have not had it hit like its hit some . ....things really need to change in the US or its gonna get aLOT worse before it gets better.

PS I took my for sale ad down as some people helped talk me down from creating more work for myself.  :eek2: I would love to have a Daytona Clone someday though.  :Twocents:

I agree they are always for sale if the right price is offered, or your situation gets bad enough to dictate it.  For me there are so many great cars out there that my favorite always seems to be my next one :shruggy:

1983 Plymouth Scamp GT 2.2 Auto

Charger71

Sold my 71 to a collector for a few reasons:

1)I didn't drive it that much,
2)Wanted space in garage,
3)Will be buying property in Montana,
4)Still got my 67 Coronet,
5)Coronet is currently a father/son project (He switched from imports to "domestic"....MOPARS)

My 68 is for sale, but i've got another one. :scratchchin:

i would sell for the right money (for my escort, neon, or dodge truck), but not my 72 or 73 Charger and definitely not my RR.  I grew up in the 73 so it is just not for sale, even though its not rare or desirable to others, it is that way to me.

It's rare because I grew up in it, how many other chargers are like mine? ZERO  lol... so its rare, a real one of one car LOL  :smilielol:

but i love my cars, i really do, and to part with them would mean I am in huge dire straits.  Not happening so far (knocking on wood).

Good luck for those that do want to sell them... but mine will not leave my garage, concrete apron or my property.  Well, not without a few rounds of my 30/30 being fired in hostility that is :D

I tried to "jump on the bandwagon" back in '05 when the first DOH movie came out....I had it sold for 50k to a guy in CA....I went as far as opening a seperate bank acct for the money transfer......at the last minute the guy threw "the wife" at me.  This guy was a serious collector and had the funds to back it up....let me tell you I AM SO GLAD IT FELL THROUGH!
Mostly for my mental well being but for my family as well....my kids were heart broken & my wife told me I was crazy..,....at the time I WAS! ;)

Was that when you had the car lsited on Ebay Chris? Heck I think of selling my Charger 500 just about every day, then I realize that even if I do sell it I would be way short of buying what I really want. So for now it will remain in my possession.

the difference between your story and mine, is that i actually sold my car.... :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:
I had to choose between this:

and this:

well i chose the Porsche, sold the charger.  ya, gggggreat idea that was, i lasted 8 months and then i saw my old charger at a cruise night.  :brickwall: :brickwall: :eek2:
2 weeks later and i sold the Porsche and was sitting in Minnesota, and drove home to Toronto in this:

all in all it worked out great, i made alot of $ on the Porsche, and ended up with a better charger, a real r/t, 2 owner car, with 50000mi original....i'm happy; this ones a keeper  :D :nana: :coolgleamA:   i told my wife to never let me sell it.... :2thumbs:

I think the main reason people are selling right now, is the "baby boomers" they are just ready to retire, and they think "i'm too old for this shat" "i'd rather be golfing", but for every charger/classic for sale, there is a buyer..... :Twocents:

Yep....momentary lapse of sanity I guess... :rotz:

I didn't realize more people was selling them....but then I don't go looking on eBay, Craigslist etc that often to notice a difference. Not that I wouldn't mind 5 more but I need to get mine done then maybe I will look for another. As far as I am concerned mine will never be up for sale. I have NEVER in 30 years thought about selling it. I have had let some other muscle cars go because of hard times  :brickwall: But I would give everything else up to keep my Chargerif If have to.....well except my house. I guess times are rough for a lot of people with this bankrupt nation we are in. I would say now isn't a good time to sell unless you hook up with the right person and you get what you want :Twocents:

When I was buying my charger my wife made some comment about making money when we sell it. I then quickly explained to her with a great deal of emphasis and passion that I would never sell this car and that our son will most likely get it when I'm gone. She kinda gave me this 'WTF' look but  has never mentioned it again. We just had another baby boy on Jan 1st of this year (Killian is his name) and I may be on my way to convincing her that now we need to buy another Charger or GTX or other mopar muscle car  "because we can't leave a car to one son and not the other". Now keep in mind we are both only 33 and god willing, wont have to worry about any inheritance anytime soon but if the thought of it helps me get another car what the hell. :2thumbs:

I'm looking at buying another one.  Last week I almost grabbed a 73 SE from a man that's had it since 74.  I'm still thinking about it.  :scratchchin:  My 68 will never be for sale, I'll live in it if I have to.

I am one of those people who just sold thier Charger. I sold mine in September.

I sold mine to help pay off some doctor bills received when my daughter was born in August. I got very good money for the car. I was able to pay off the bills and purchase another Charger as well. I did not need to do it, but I felt it was the right thing to do for my family. I owned that car for 12 years. I must say, I do not miss it like I thought I would.

Hey, whaddya mean, "at the time"???:D :nana:
I'm glad it fell thru too, who would I have to call then for answers to all my questions??

I've had numerous offers to buy my cars, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Even today, some people are telling me to sell my '70 & invest the money instead. Not sure I wanna do that. Finding the right car you've always dreamed of owning is so tough!!!

For most of us, collector cars are luxury items that require a big investment.  In a down economy these luxury items can be the first to go.  I suppose it depends on how much the car is "leveraged" as to whether or not it will be sold.

Some people bought their cars at the right time, when they had the extra dough, ...and others stretched or even financed their pride and joy (I don't know why anybody would do that but it happens).

I don't fault anyone for selling their "investment" if they feel its reached its peak - isn't that the definition of "investment?"  On the other hand, I really feel bad for those who loved their cars - but have been forced to sell to survive a financial downturn.

I know first hand.... it's very hard to sell a car that you thought you'd never sell ....and its always the last thing to go after struggling to make ends meet.   For those who had to sell,  I hope you'll find another dream car when the time is right.  :2thumbs:
