Just found a really good deal on a 1971 /6 3speed manual Duster, and I was curious how hard would it be to conver to a small block or even a big block. How hard would it be to swap in a 4 speed tranny? The little research that I have done over at slantsix.com slantsix.org tells me small stuf like torsion bars and brakes, but that was mainly for small blocks.

If anyone has a good link, article, or information on swapping out the /6 & 3spd manual for a Big Block 4speed drive train Id really love to see it.
Thanks alot.

There isn't much more to say because its a fairly straight foward swap, its already a stick car but if its on the column then you'll need a floor hump. The rear needs to be changed out as its probably a 7 1/4 which usually don't hold up even to the leaning tower of power. Keep the K-frame you have now and use the Schumacher pieces because theres never been any stress on it, the rest is cake, good luck.

:yesnod:  you'll need to swap to atleast an 8.75, remember that finding a body 8.75 is possible but they usually hit you deep in the wallet.   you may also have to beat the firewall back a little, id rebuild the entire suspensionn, mainly the front with polygraphite kit fro mjust suspensions to help handle the add wieght and power of a big block, some subframe connecters would be a decent idea too. then to help it hook, id run SS springs or even a 4 link,  course all these suggestions will depend on your budget and how big you are going.
