HI... I think I asked this before. I have heard this was posible. My buddy, owner of a 73 too so he ended buying a complete side to side differential from explorer. When I saw it I thought HERE IS SOMETHING WEIRD but preffer to shut up because my buddy was optimistic.

As finally we saw once dissasemble, this is not posible at least on a 8 3/4 diff. Maybe yes on a 8 1/4 being with C clips axles not a banjo kind with tapered bearings and pressed axles :shruggy:

does anybody of you guys know something about ?

once again, what car donor we can take to use the rear disc setup ?

you can use a ford explorer setup, but you need to have a adapter built for the calipers. Honestly if your just wanting disc brakes I'd do it the racer way. But this only works if you dont care about the parking brake, because you wont have one anymore. Find a set of disc rotors that are the right bolt pattern, any of them will work, I used ones from a volvo once and clearanced the holes slightly to make it fit (it was real close) then got the caliper bracket from a local racing shop, and used a GM metric caliper from a 77 and up GM car. just get the front calipers, then mock it all up, apply pressure to the calipers so they close around the rotor, then mark where the bracket is and weld it on. then assemble it as you normally would. it's worked on many roundy round cars, so i dont see why it wouldn't work on a street car.

well the car is street, so parking brake is necesary

i seem to remember that too
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

well, since we had an extra 8.75 axle and we tried to make everything out of the car with this extra set, he got the gasket to check for matching holes/studs and rest of assembly around.

keep the USEFULL post coming please.

If you have an automatic why would you even use a parking brake unless you park on a hill all the time.

Caracas is a Valley... mountains all around

Oh ok. Why couldn't you use the emergency brake system from the Ford then? I am not familier with the sytem from that so?

the problem is attach the brake plate system on to 8.75 axle. Diff holes location, and lot stuff more, like the plate is THICK, making imposible to get it completelly fit the bearings on axle housing...
