Not many of us can say this about their pick-up trucks

I thought this was cool. Just wish they had a picture so you could see what kind of shape it is in.

Wis. man says truck headed for milestone

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080201/ap_on_fe_st/odd_million_mile_truck_2

"MEDFORD, Wis. - Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby — the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark.

Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number.

He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle.

"I feel almost like the longtime NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end," Oresnik said.

He credits proper maintenance and a good measure of luck for allowing the truck to rack up so many miles. He said he's had more than 300 oil changes and tuneups at the Medford business, going in every 3,000 miles.

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled, Oresnik said.

He bought the Silverado in June 1996 after the original owner put 41,000 miles on it. Oresnik uses the vehicle to deliver seafood in three states, putting on about 85,000 miles a year."

My father in law had a 96ish GMC Safari, one of those vans with the V6, not all wheel drive, just rear with posi.  He hauls newspapers all night, every night, and that van had 1.4million KMS on it when it finally died when he hit a deer!!!!  This is all on the original drive line, motor, tranny, rear end was never touched, oil changes, and regular service only, and of course about 10 brake jobs, 3 gas tanks, probably about 5 exhaust systems if i remember right, and it had it's original rad!!! and 10sets of tires, i couldn't believe how long that thing went, and keep in mind it was full every night of news papers!!!!  basically loaded to capacity every night!!!!  The fuel door was totally rusted out, the rear latch was just hanging there for the last 5yrs, but the stupid thing ran like a top!!!!!   :shruggy:

I personally took 3 cars past the 500,000kms mark, first was a 85 Honda CRX (my first car) 580,000kms died taking a jump on the highway  :rotz:, and a 86 mustang GT 5spd 560,000kms spun rear main bearing, and a 90 mustang GT 540,000kms tranny died (auto), all bought with under 100,000kms on them, and all went over 500,000kms of me driving them, on original drivelines too, although they did start to have problems after the 500,000kms mark, that's why i got rid of them.... :popcrn:

Doesn't say much about GM trannys unless he forgot to properly maintain that   :D

My daily driver has 220,000 miles on it.  92 S10 Blazer 4.3 Vortec Auto 4x4

It broke down on me a month ago and I just put a new fuel pump in it last weekend, it runs like new again.  :2thumbs:

TruckDriver

I want your Blazer Matt! I love those. I already had 2, but they both bit the dust rust wise.

My '93 Dakota with the 318, auto. just rolled to 224,000. Still runs great with tons of tire smoking power. It has a pinging issue when you get on it hard, that I'm trying to figure out. I run mid grade gas in it now to help, but premium usually gets rid of most of it, when I can afford it :P

Yeah amazingly the rust isnt bad for an S10.  The lower part of the rear passenger quarter is rusted but the driver side is clean.  The drivers fenders a little banged up, and that caused a little rust to start there, but if I wanted to repair it, fenders are like $60 new.  I traded that $400 4 banger Mustang i had straight up for this truck last summer.   :D  The Mustangs motor was ready to blow... (the guy didnt care because he wanted to drop a 5.0 in it)  this just needed some TLC but nothing I cant handle.  It has most of the available options too as far as I can tell.  Thankfully not that POS digital dash though.   ;D  I dont think I'll get rid of this truck, just because I have a bunch of money into it now and im curious to see just how long it will run.   ;)   I have had good luck with S10s overall, this is the 3rd one I have owned.

I want to know what sort of shape the driver's seat is in.
Oh & how many door hinges & latches he's gone through. :icon_smile_tongue:

I bet it's a 700R4, I've killed 3 of them in my '89 Suburbus since I've owned it. :icon_smile_angry:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

terrible one

A guy I work with drives an S10 with about 410,000 miles on it. You can tell by looking at it too haha

I dunno what all the fuss is about. :shruggy: Theres at least 10-15 guys on DieselTruckResource.com with "million mile" Dodge Cummins trucks. I guess if you take into account that his truck is a gasser maybe its worth the fuss. Just my :Twocents:...

yeah i think that is what is so crazy. it's a gas truck. i just bought a 96 ram 12 valve cummins showing 561k on the odometer. the motor's never been apart. i don't know much history on the truck, but the guy i got it from got it in 2002 and hasn't replaced a tranny or a clutch in those 5 years.. it runs and drives great.. the driver's door was bungeed shut, they had slammed the door so many times after it started sagging they ripped the door latcher on the door to shreds. i just bought a parts truck for the door

Yeah, the number isn't amazing until you realize that it's a gasoline-burner and the original motor has never been out of it.

TruckDriver

I saw the truck on the news last night, and from what they showed of it, it is in pretty good shape too. The red paint still shines good.

This old girl had almost a quarter million miles when I sold her last year.

I sold it after I got my 04 Quad Cab Hemi 1500.  MAN that thing sure is a good truck, sold it to a buddy and he is still driving it every day. Engine has never been apart and the A/C and cruise still work!

Had to rebuild the tranny at about 185-190 and had to put a set of door hinge pins in it but the thing still runs and drives like a champ

Rack

Had my truck about 2 1/2 years and have less then 20K miles on it.

I'm an idiot, that's what happened.

Opened the door, was about to put the gas nozzle in, my fiance comes around the back to take my money so she could pay for the gas, I stepped forward (towards the rear of the truck) to give her the money. Gave her the money then I stepped backwards... right into the gas door.

So yeah, pretty much summed it up with the first sentence.

Charger1973

 :icon_smile_blackeye:  Yeah that would suck!

I remember when my grandma did something similar but on a much larger scale.  She was at the automatic car wash and didnt get close enough to reach the machine so she pulled ahead and opened the door.  Somehow she ended up going in reverse and caught the door on the machine and bent it backwards...   She had it replaced but it never sealed right again.
