What causes this? (spring spacer)

These are my spring spacer's they were under my exhuast valves. I have about 2500-3000 miles on these heads.they are 906's. They had matched springs to my cam which has .501 lift 292 dur.   I had a machine shop work these over and they assembled them, and guess what.. They didn't put new guides or hardened seats in them, so yes my exhuast seat's are totally beat out and the intake are almost the same way but not as bad.  But what causes this any thoughts :shruggy:  I ran the car for 2 summer's with the stamped style rockers and the last month before i put the car away for the winter i installed 440sources roller rockers, i dont think this happend from switching the roller rocker's, becuase it seems like it been like this for a long while, but i don't know...
What do you guys think ::) ::) ::)

It looks like they used just ordinary spring shims under your springs, when you start adding hi perf cams and higher spring pressures you need to use hardened spring shims to prevent your springs and dampner from eating away at your shims. No lead in your fuel and high heat causes your valves to basically tack weld themselves to your seat and then it just keeps  pulling metal away from your seat and then there is eventually nothing left as you found out. Install hardened seat and some good stainless performance valves and that should cure your seat problem.

I was going to re work them but it would cost about 5-600 bucks so i figured it store them away and buy a set of 440sources heads. So basically the place didn't use hardened spacers.

I agree with Kevin ; those spring shims were made of an inferior material. Seems consistent with the other work or lack thereof that this shop did to your poor 906's  :brickwall:
