Is it possible to put a 275/40/20 tire on the back and a 245/45/20 on the front of a 1973 Charger? I got a good deal on some 2006 SRT 8 rims and was thinking of trying them on my 73. Would they work ya think? Actully I put one on the back and it looked cool, but I'm not sure about the front. If it makes a difference, the rims are 9" wide and I think the back spacing is 5.3. Anyone know? Thanks.

If you have the wheels there, I would just try it and see.  Take some pics too.  I know its not something id do to my car but im curious to see how it looks.

What's the total diameter of the tires?  And the offset?    Those are the big questions.

I will get pictures soon. They look real good so far. I think the offset is 20mm. Thats what I have found so far. If I do keep them, I'm gonna have to lower the car alot. I have air shocks in the back now and when I put the 20" on I had to drop them all the way down and it still was high. The rims I wanted to get are about $5000 with tires, so this may be a great allternative if it works. Now I just have to sell my slots......HAHAHHAA

I think 17" is the max limit for a good looking wheel/tires combo on a muscle

I know alot of people hate bigger rims on older cars,but I am going for a specific look. I don't adhear to any style or design. Much like music (been a musician for 30 years), it's the overall vibe I'm going for and not a time stamp. I will say that muscle cars are my # 1. I promice you this though,when this car is done, it will drop lot of jaws.

If you wanna see what they look like, go to http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/ and go to their "wheel visualizer". You can pick a '73, pick the colour of your car, pick tire and wheels sizes and if you pick "Bonspeed" wheels, there are some that look like SRT 8s. I tried doing it for you but I messed up.

It could look good with the right mods and paint.  I think if the car was left basically stock they would look out of place though. But it doesnt look too bad.

Looks a bit weird with those wheels on it. It looks like thy kinda fit but kinda don't the car needs something and once you find that something they will look killer.

Can I fit a 295/50 on a 15x8 wheel with 4.75" of backspacing in the rear of my '68? I have the little program thingy that will show you but it only alternates between 4.5" and 5" and it seems like it could fit if it fell in between there (just a bit overlapping the outer lip at 4.5". Anyone know?

I'm getting almost the same combo but with zero offset  - 4.5" backspacing.  I think you'll probably be fine and so should I.  I'll know on Saturday afternoon for sure.  My current wheels are 5.75" backspacing but it's a 17x9.5 wheel with a 285/40 tire, which doesn't have so much sidewall.  They rubbed the inner wheelhouse once, I think, with me and 3 passengers.

Sounds like you're using my fitment page, http://vexer.com/68rt/wheelguide.html I can change it so the offset moves in 1/4" increments, but I might have lost the code...

I would go at least 5" BS.  I have 5" and I could've gone 5.5" and probably should have.  My 295/45/18s brush the wheelwell lip on hard compressions on 18x9.5" wheels.

Yep, I've been using it! What a wonder! No worry about the code, just tell me how the 4.5" works! Hehe

Mass_Mopar, I don't think I need anywhere near that much backspacing as this wheel is 8" wide where yours is almost 10".

Yeah, I know that's kind of pushing it with the 295's but they'll look good bulging!

I think that it should work. As you and others have said, the 10's are generally being run with a 5- 5.5" backspace. 5.5" into 10" is 1.82", and 4.75" into 8" is 1.68", so if anything, they would be rubbing the inner side . . . I think? It's close. . .

They are good looking wheels,   the pic has the front wheel a little forward (turned to right pose) so it makes the car look a little different with the illusion of longer wheel base,  but overall I like em,
  can you get a pic from standing more back and to the side of car at an angle?
