Randy, i've got a 2 ton fold up hoist...spend a few extra bucks and get this one. A 440 with a 727 weighs a lot so the extra capacity is a bonus. I paid $169.00 for mine and have used it several times and loaned it out to friends.  :icon_smile_big:

You better get the 2 ton.  The lifting capacity is reduced the further you extend the beam.  I think a 2 ton extended all the way, which is what you have to do to get the engine out, is reduced to 1 ton.  A 440 alone weighs 687 pounds.  Then add the 727 at a couple hundred pounds.  Now bounce the whole assemble up and down a couple of times while you are getting the assembly out of the engine bay and you could probably figure on peak loads of at least 1500 pounds.  And the price difference is minimal.  Get the fold up leg type.  I got mine at Sams last year around Christmas with a "Goodyear Racing" label.  Harbor Freight has something similar--------and if you wait two weeks it will be on sale-----everything there is on sale every few weeks.  Mine had the load centering device as part of the package.  Don't know if the Harbor Freight one does but it was sure handy.  I also got a engine stand (1500 #) and after pulling the engine immediately attached it to the stand.

Just a quick question, if I may:
Do you normally pull and install the engine with the transmission attached?

if you have the ceiling height & room you can pull both at the time . i had to pull the motor by its self becauce i had 0 room to do both .

I work at major tool company (not Harbor Freight) and they had a bunch of engine hoist parts in the scarp been because they where cleaning out there return dept and no one thought to put all the return hoist to gether to make on good hoist so i bought a whole palllet of parts foe 30.00 and had enough parts  to build allmost two hoists and what i was missing on the second one they just gave me this year.so i bought two 2 ton hoists for 30.00.
