Hello,

New here. Just bought a 1973 charger and I'm not sure what it is. Its a 340 magnum car in great shape. I have some questions.

I'm trying to remove the dash and install a tach. It has a clock now. i cant seem to get it apart (from the car) Cant find any more screws. Also, Are these cares what they call B bodys? I'm sure there is more but thats it for now.

The H is the 340 engine code and the only way to get a 340 in a 73 Charger was with the Rallye Package.   :2thumbs:

W = Dodge Coronet / Charger
H = High
23 = 2 Door Hardtop
H = 340 240HP(net) 1-4BBL 8 CYL
3 = 1973
A = Lynch Road, MI, USA
XXXXXX = Sequence Number

Ok So its a Rallye, What does that mean? And dose anyone know how to remove the dash,, safely?

The Rallye is a package that was available on the Charger.  Unfortunately I dont have my books with me right now so I will let someone else go into the details.

As far as the dash goes, the question has been asked here before and I have posted pictures of my dash after it was removed.  I'll look real quick and see if I can find that thread with the pictures.  (I installed Vista on my computer the other day and I dont have any of the old files on my hard drive anymore.)

Thank you,

I love the car. The body is straight, Were rebuildng the 340 (tweaking a bit) Gonna paint it (not sure what color nor what was available) I wanna ditch the clock for a tach though. Anyone else???

The tach is easy to install, and since you have a cluster with the clock, its a simple swap.  You can get an original (they went to 7k RPMs) or a repro which looks a little different than the original one and goes to 8k RPMs.

Moparbob

Hey Charger,

Do you think I can slide the clock out? I don't want to disassemble the whole car as it sounds in the topic you posted?

Sure, its possible.  Might not be easy but it can be done.

If Natcho can do it, at least you know it's possible. Good Luck.

How did you determine it was a Rallye?

The 340 was part of the Rallye package in 1973.  That was the only way to get it.  You car should have a bulge hood too.

to remove clock ? no, just get it loosen to be able to slightly push it and get room to remove the clock and stem. Cluster will keep on place

1972Rallye

Did you get it out?  There are 3 small, phillips screws holding the clock to the back of the cluster. There is also a tiny screw holding on the finger dial to the clock stem that you need to remove. With the radio out, you should be able to remove the clock without removing the cluster. Not easy, but possible. Keep us posted!
