Crazy Larry

In a nut shell.....

2002 - While in pre-production for a movie, after searching far and wide for a hero car in the film - we found a Charger in a Vermont barn....

Brought it home with it's non-original faded orange with black vinyl top.....

Before filming - a black paint coat was added, for a cosmetic upgrade - all part of the movie budget.

While filming - cracked the crank shaft of the original 383 while executing a stunt. The 383 was pulled and a 70's 440 was installed - with original 727 transmission.....

The Charger was put through the ringer while filming but survived and now sits in my garage. Since production, the interior has been redone with all new everything, added disc brakes up front, new steering box and racing steering wheel, ratchet shifter, and tires.

Here are a bunch of photos in chronological order......

I bought my 68 in february last year, and have done NOTHING with it yet.
I live in Norway, and bought it on ebay, in Burlington,WI. A buddy og mine lives just a couple of hours south of that, so he went up to see it, and when the roads cleared, he picked it up for me. It was sitting with him, till I came over in June, and picked it up. From there we went to Bay-City, to a boatrace, where this picture is taken. From there we drove it to Reading,PA, to another buddy of mine, where it is now.
Was planning to ship it right away, but with all the new resto parts, and other things that is getting available now in these days, i decided to leave the car there, and buy as much as i can afford, to bring with the car, in the same shipping. Specially items that are big volume/ heavy/ fragile is important for me to get in the same container. (A rear quarter would cost me app. 4-500 to ship separatly :eek2:)
Hope to have it shipped by the end of March. Will drive the car like it is this summer, and start the work in the fall. Then it will not be back on the road, before it is completly done.
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Here's what it looked like when I bought it in May of 2006...

And here's what it looks like today (I literally took these pictures today)...

I took out the brake pedal/steering assembly, back window, quarter window lift assemblies, and some other minor stuff.

I know I will not be able to put the quarter window lift assemblies back the way they're suppose to be. Not in a million years.

I'm pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a lot of rust in the rear window channel (is that what it's called?). Looks pretty solid in that area.

terrible one

Rack! Awesome progress man. I didn't know you had it all torn down and on a dolley. That's great to see.  :2thumbs:

viper r/t

Well let's see....
Got it in 2005, had alot of fun after the previous owner threw out all the chrome, most of the interior and cut the crap out of it  :RantExplode:
When I got it home.......

And here it is now.........

Awesome looking charger, Viper!

I really like that color too.  :yesnod:

Thanks. :D

Pretty soon I'll have it up on the rotiesserie and I'll be scraping off all the undercoating. Then I'll wash/degrease the whole thing so I can get it media blasted. Hopefully that'll be happening real soon.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!     ::)
Greetings from Belgium, the beer country

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Qiute abit has changed since I bought it in 2002. Pretty much done a complete resto. Nothing like a frame off nut and bolt but a nice driver quality resto. New trunk pan, pass. side quarter, grille, seat covers, carpet, headliner, vinyl top, paint (twice), wheels, etc. I havent done any thing with the motor yet. I have a '69 440 and a new 727 I'm gonna drop down in it. I'm gonna get started on it this spring.
These are from the day I bought it. They are not very good quality but you can get the jest.

This is from today.

Current MoPars:

This is a good thread.
Here's mine a few days after I got it in 1986.

With it's cool sheepskin seatcovers & sparkly blue steering wheel.

A summertime shot from 1991, it's daily driver duties were behind it by now & was only driven on good days.

Being the master procrastinator that I am (always seems to be 100 other things to spend money on ::) ), there hasn't been a whole lot done to it to make it look purty. I hope to be able to change that shortly & finally begin my resto. :)
Here is how it looks today.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Mefirst

Bought my ride back in 2002.

Over the years the drive line and suspension have been completely rebuilt. The interior needs some TLC and at some point Ill have to take the car appart and do some body work and give it a new coat of paint...

Havent had the time or nice enough weather to work on it since then.

The quarter panels had been cut up a bit and I had some rust issues on the floorpans and some frame rails.  The new floorpans are in and the quarters are ready to go on.  After that the a couple of the frame rails will be replaced.  I am hoping to have it all back together this summer.

JimsSE

A whole lot of TLC since I bought it in 1992...that's about it.  And I replaced a few of the date coded engine pieces for safe keeping (coil, ECU, Voltage Reg., spark plug wires, belts and hoses, etc.).  Oh yeah, I repainted the valve covers too.  Other than that, and tires and a battery, she's pretty much the way Ma Mopar delivered her 35 years ago.
