Hear and read I might get into problems with hoodclearence on my project Charger 68 R/T since I will have
a performer RPM on the 440 and a Mopar Performance airfilter 14" x 3".
Any suggestions except a bottom covering the total carburator?

K&N makes a nice 1.25in drop base air cleaner assembly that works perfect with the RPM intake and a second gen stock hood. When using a drop base i like to use a flow-thru top because when you drop the base it can restrict flow into the carb because the lid is too close....the flo-thru top allows air in from above and the last thing you want to do is restrict inlet flow and choke a strong engine.  ;)

Ron, you did it again! Thanks for the good suggestion. wish I found this site earlier.
Will come back with needed advises concerning my Cuda 340 which I don't seems to get
running in a satisfactory way. Newly buildt engine in US, 727 and approx 4,90-5,10 rear end.
Cuda was "totally rebuid" but I will now disassemble engine to find out the content and come back
with questions regarding possible actions.  :2thumbs:

Ron,
Will that drop base work with the stock unsilenced wrinkle finish repro air cleaners?

Bill I used the Ford Motorsport chrome aircleaner with the drop base....its 13" in diameter like the diameter of the stock unsilenced aircleaner.....

I ran my 440 for 20 plus years with the stock unsilenced air cleaner, and a Holley Street Dominator
with an 850 Holley. I never have used a hood pad on this car, the air cleaner would just barely
touch under max load, never even made a mark in my paint, even after I took out the solid motor mounts.

But you may want to play it safe and get the drop base, I probably would if I put my high rise
back on    :yesnod:   Good luck.

I have the performer RPM intake on my 440 with the Holley 770 street avenger. I just installed this air cleaner.

Purchased it from that vendor, so far I don't see any problems. Quite a bit cheaper than K&N.

Bill, i'm not sure because i haven't tried it but i'm thinking the 14in diameter will be too big for the stock unsilenced top piece. I like Chris's idea with the fomoco base but you have to be careful if your carb has a choke horn. Too close to the lid and you will choke the big dog and he won't be happy.  ;)

For this reason (amongst many) i like the Proform main bodies, especially when using a solid lid.  :2thumbs:

I've been tempted to carve most of the chokehorn off, like what Demonzizzler doe's with Thermoquad's.
