WIW 67 charger 318 auto

Hey Guys and Gals.  My Dad can pick up this 67 charger for  $4000. The car is rust free and fresh out of CA. The car has a 318 auto in it. It is a complete car and did run a few years ago before being parked. There are a few dents and dings here and there but not much. The main thing missing is the tail light assembly which is broke out. Other than that it is very nice.  Are the tail light assembly's fairly easy to find and fairly priced? THERE IS NO RUST!!!!!!!  in the pics it shows on the rear 1/4 and it looks like rust. ITS NOT!!  Cleanest orig project car I have ever seen.

I thought the tail lights were tough to find on those, unless maybe they are reproed now, I dont know.  $4k for a rust free Charger seems like a deal to me.  Hows the interior?  I always heard the interiors can be a nightmare in the first gens.  Anyway it looks like a fun car.

Good tail light lens assembly's are available from a few different sources, but their not cheap, typically $300 to $500. Interior is not an issue with 1st Gen's... Seat and Carpet materials are available at typical prices from places like Legendary, etc. Legendary is also suppose to be re-popping door panels, but I don't know if their out yet, I'd have to check. Gage bezels are also available from a number of sources, again $300 to $500 for a full set depending on where you find them, but if yours are intact then your all set. The body appears to be in good shape, and all the trim appears to be there, so your already WAY ahead of the game in that respect. Trim pieces are very expensive, if you can find them. Re-pops are starting to show up now, but they too are expensive. You'll most likely have to do some work with the dash lighting, and probably the headlamp motor systems, as these are common issues with 1st Gen's that you see For Sale... all easy and inexpensive to fix however. There are plenty of folks that can guide you through that stuff over at the 66-67Charger.com hangout, should you decide to buy.

2. remember 66-67 chargers, while cool, and that one being solid etc, they just aren't worth much, that isn't my opinion, it's a fact. nice ones go for like $10-15k tops, so not knowing if it even runs or locked up etc, $4k may be a bit high, but if that's what he wants, then $4k could be a deal. just make sure he knows as it sits, he definitely wouldn't retire off the sale of the car should he choose not to keep it

The above statement is fairly accurate in that the average 1st Gen probably sells for 10-15K, but that's not the top. I have seen good examples sell for less, and I've seen extreme cases that pulled over 100K. Be that as it may... assuming that 12K was in fact an average selling price, which of the 2 vehicles below would you rather be driving... the 1967 Dodge Charger, or the 2007 Ford?

I would agree at 4k you could have top dollar in it after restoration, so if you just like the style and want to have the car 4k is not bad at all, but if your looking at investment dollar and resale down the road 4k may be just a little high.  Investment value= What I Itell my wife to justify buying another mopar

i try to use that investment thing on my wife too , but she knows i never sell them. so she throws it back in my face LOL

    try to get it for 3k  then you wont get hurt ,  I bought a nice rust free one all aparts for 2k big block car , a/c  power steering and brakes.

It's not a bargain at 4K, but it's probably worth it. The tail light lenses are hard to find and expensive when you find them- they were repoped for awhile, but the repops weren't as good as the originals- letters were plastic (not metal) and tended to peel off the chrome finish after awhile. The headlamps being open are a good indicator you will be rebuilding the motors. See if the gauges and dashlights work- chances are they won't, and they are expensive to fix properly.

Really. . .My best friend had a 66 Hemi Charger with a 4 spd. It was a rotisserie restoration, with original engine and transmission. The car was absolutly perfect and he could not get $70,000 out of it. He had it to BJ, Kruse and one other auction. I just have not seen them bring that kind of money.

I sold a 66 HEMI charger body with int. for $3000 in 2000.  Took me a wile to sell it. There was no engine or trans in it. Did still have the Kframe.

No insult intended... Sorry if it came off sounding that way, but you know how it is with forums... text is often misinterpreted. It is this fact they drove me to create that post in the first place. I knew that you would not have turned down a Hemi at that price, but someone else reading your statement might have interpreted it differently. So my meager attempt to further clarify the statement and inject a little humor failed... It happens from time to time, and there's not much we can do about it...
