i may be getting a set of 346 ported heads 2.14 / 1.81 valves . all the work was done 10 years ago . but im wondering will the valve springs need to be replaced because they have been under pressure all that time ?  :shruggy:

thanks RANDY

Randy, were all of the valves in the closed position ? Or were the heads mounted on the motor wit the cam and valvetrain installed ?

the heads were never put on the motor . the guy had all of the machine work done to the 383 and the 346 heads by the time he was getting ready to put everything togather he found out his car was toast . so he bagged up all the parts and stored them in a climate controled basement for the last ten years .

Unless you plan to spin it 8000 rpm I wouldn't worry.

:iagree: the valve springs will be fine.

Just make sure that they are the correct springs for whatever cam you will be running in this motor.  ;)

Randy, there are lots of good cam options out there.....the Lunati VooDoo grinds are impressive and Crower has a few street friendly profiles that would work. The converter stall and exhaust system (headers vs manifolds) as well as the intake/carb are all critical factors to consider.  :yesnod:

Do you have a part number on that crane cam...i'm not familiar with it. Any part numbers on the valve springs ?  :scope:

Randy, those are good springs....basicly a stock replacement style spring with descent coil bind clearance and enough pressure for any hydraulic flat tappet cam and most solid lifter cams.

Unless your valve guides have been trimmed down you will be limited to .510 valve lift so these will work fine with any cam that fits within those parameters.  :2thumbs:
