Hey guys/gals,

Have a 73 charger, it was stolen at one point or another and issued a NY state vin...i really dont mind, the car is not origional to begin with and i plan on doing more to it with no plans of selling. But the problem is i cant find out where they put a new plate or a new sticker. I have no plate on the dash, and i cant find a sticker anywhere with the new vin. Do i have to go to my local DMV and see if they can give me one? Other wise ill just leave it as is, but if i ever get pulled over or i have it parked on the street..i dont want them busting my chops about things. Any ideas?

Have you checked the door jamb. Looks like you have a black 73 SE, any pictures?

Yep checked the door jambs. Its a 73 SE that was originally red, and whoever painted it did a half arse job (body work in places thats wavy) . Car looks OK but the engine bay is still red, and inside the drivers door jamb its flaking off. There are what looks like stickers under the black paint in the door jamb but i dont know how im going to manage to strip the paint off without hurting the sticker.

not sure if i have understood this correctly  :scratchchin:        do you know what  the re issued vin is  or are you just looking for the plate   :-\          what about  give the DMV the plate number & get then to run it ,

Nope car is registered and everything is fine, but im under the impression that when they re-issue a vin they also put at least a sticker with the new vin some where on the car. Or am i wrong here and looking for something that dosent exist?

never had any experience with any of this , only what i have read about . saying it police issue a vin & attach it to the car in question , weather that is  riveted on some where or a decal  :shruggy: .

you say there is a painted over sticker in the  door jam , might just be a  tire pressure decal , try a bit of lacquer thinner on a rag or a Qtip & carefully  start to lightly rub as the paint on the edge of the sticker . dont rub it too hard other wise the whats printed on the decal will come off  completely . then see what happens

Went out and started scraping...paint just kinda comes off as it dosent look like he cleared the door jambs. Found the tire pressure sticker...and bam scraped a bit off of another sticker and saw "New york" so i continued scraping and found the affixed vin sticker. Im happy now...more happier it matches the registration lol

Thanks. I was thinking on the lines of somewhat an original looking one. I have all the vins and build sheet.

Congrats.
My 73 was originally white, then red, now black. The engine bay is still red.

Performance Car Graphics in Florida last I heard.  http://www.performancecargraphics.com/

We had a discussion a while back at the '70 Charger Registry about what the cut off date for spelling out the month versus numerical month designations.  Apparently PCG took our info. to better authenticate their process.

Thanks. If I would get over there more often I probably would have seen it :2thumbs:
