For $3000 you could build one hell of a building from scratch if you get a set of plans/blueprints. Depending on the size though, you may need a permit. I know a lot of municipalities require that anything bigger than 8'x 8' needs a permit. Also, I've seen local shed builders offer complete buildings that are delivered & set on a flat area for that price range, but I don't know how big it would be.

There is a lumber company chain called "84 Lumber" that sells plans for under $15 & have the materials list. You can try a local lumber yard, or look on line for a place like this one:

Shoot for about 7k you could build a small Gargage and have plenty of room for parts, mowers and even a spare project :2thumbs:  I am planning on pouring a floor with footings this summer to build a heated garage on in the future, Eventually I would like to have a heated 2 car with a lift. :drool5:

I bought a 12x12 metal shed "kit" then you need to  build or buy a floor kit. and then assemble it which was fun. my other shed is a 12x14 wood shed which was delivered. after about 5 years the wood one is holding up better than the metal. my next shed will be wood.  :Twocents:

I built and designed a 10'x12' shed with a gable roof in the back year for around $1,200 total. I don't know if I still have the plans that I made for it, but its not that difficult if your pretty handy. I made it with 8' tall side walls, then a gable roof. That allowed for a storage loft on the top. Made the loft 7' off the floor of the shed, and that allowed for 6' on top of the loft down the center of the shed.

Are you anywhere near Noblesville/Indianapolis? If so these guys do a helluva job: http://tuffshed.com/locator.cfm?StateID=IN

I had a Tuff Shed installed in my back yard and they are about as good as it gets. I think I paid right around $2k for my 8x12 shed and it only took them about 4-5 hrs to put it up. They can do just about any size you want. I got a couple extras too like a larger than standard shelf and a skylight.

If regs/permits and the yard's overall appearance aren't any concern, then I would build it as big as you can feasibly afford.

A high ceiling is usually a cheap way to increase the space per cubic foot. You're not trying to live comfortably in this thing, just pile stuff.  And there aren't many things you'll ever be storing that require an 8-foot ceiling.   I say give it a relatively low (but very strong) internal ceiling for the back half of the building, maybe 5 feet high or something.  Concentrate the heavy stuff like lawnmowers & engine blocks on the lower floor, and you'll find plenty of lighter-weight stuff that's suited to storing on the upper level.

And if this thing is big enough for a car body inside, then think about maybe putting a full car-sized door on it somewhere so you can roll a car body into it and shut the door if need be.  You might not originally plan on using it this way, but you'd be surprised how quickly you will start wishing you could.

For $3,000 I'd come build you a shed down there in Columbus.   :2thumbs: If you ever up by Mooresville give me a shout, and you could check out the one I built here. I did the same on down by Racoon Lake for a weekend fun house.

Happy Birthday man.  I remember 21.  It was actually anti climatic as then the adrenaline we got for trying to buy booze with fake ID's soon disappeared.

We had a 10' x 12' that TuffShed put in.  I initially wanted it at 16' long and high roof but something about the city & code.  My wife discussed it with TuffShed while I was in the hospital so I was out of the loop on the shortening of it.  Kind of made having the extra door not needed.  Now it sits there with hardly anything in it.

The leveling was the spendy part, $700 & I think the shed was in the $3200 range.  $4k that could have easily been less had even half the folks who offer to help me out actually stepped up to the plate.

thanks for the bday wishes guys.
im about an hour south of indy/noblesville.  im looking for something about 16x24. i do want it capable of storing my charger with enough room to raise the hood, mainly for in the summer/fall cause the farm shed gets really really dusting due to the hay and crops,  I live out in the country and theres now limit as long as its a storage shed not implanted into the ground.  thought about building a garage but its kinda out of my budget range if i wanna get my stroker done this year. i might try 84 lumber, they are just a couple miles from me.
