I have a 1969 charger that was stolen in 1978 and was recovered in 2000.  When the car was returned it did not have the VIN tag on the dash or the VIN tag on the Door. Is someone remaking these tags?

There is no Vin Tag on the door of a '69 Charger. How was it returned to you after 22 years if the Vin was removed?

Those are not VINs they are body numbers. The state only recognizes the dash VIN. You may have to get a state issued VIN.

i just went out and check, my VIN is stamped in my core support and upper trunk lip, all ten digits too, as far as i know, nobody if reproducing those, but some companies such as year one are reproducing the door vin stickers.

If your dash tag is gone, maybe someone has registered that VIN on another car.  You might check with the registry guys and see if they have any info on it?

On a 69 the numbers on the radiator core support will only be a partial of the VIN. The only place that the FULL VIN was stamped was on the dash VIN plate, Fender tag, Engine and Transmission. However if the dash VIN tag is missing then to title the car you will need to get a STATE issued VIN for the car.

oh okay, mines a 74, maybe they started doing the whole vin lateron  :shruggy: either that or somebody took the time and effort to stamp it themselves.

Here's the story of my 1969 Charger  :popcrn:

In 1968 my uncle purchased the 1969 Dodge Charger from a dealership here, in Detroit Michigan. My aunt and uncle drove the car from 1969 to 1976. In 1976 my grandpa purchased the Charger from my uncle and aunt for $200.00. My grandpa bought the car so that my mom would have a car to drive to school and work. The Charger was my mom's first car.
On Friday July 7, 1978 the car was stolen from the Hudson's parking lot in Dearborn, Michigan while my mom was working. I can remember as a kid my dad telling my brother and me that my mom used to drive a 1969 Dodge Charger and that it was stolen a long time ago. My dad and mom always thought that the car was stolen to be used in the TV show Dukes of hazard and that the car probably was smashed and taken to a junk yard never to be seen again by my family. In May of 2000 my grandpa received an interesting phone call from the East point police department; they found my mom's 1969 Dodge Charger!!! Someone had purchased the car at an auction in Detroit. When the person (the police would not give us his name) brought the car home they found out that the VIN the trunk rail did not match the VIN on the dash or the VIN on his title, since the VIN on the trunk can not be removed or replaced he decide to have the police run the VIN number on the trunk rail of the car. The VIN number on the trunk rail came back as a stolen vehicle. The police impounded the car and returned it back to my mom. My mom, once again 22 years later was the owner of a 1969 Dodge Charger. When we received the Charger back from the police, it was in bad shape, it was missing the engine, transmission and most of the interior plus it looked like it was drag raced at some point in time. I also think that the car sat in a field for at least 10 years because there was a lot of rust on the car.
After about a month of owning the car, my dad decided he wanted to get the car restored. At the time in June of 2000 my dad was looking for some one to restore the charger I was in high school restoring my own classic a 1972 Mach 1 Mustang. One of my trechers in my high school auto shop offered to restore the car for my dad. So we towed it over to the high school shop and the restoration began.
In 2002 the car was still not done and my parents decided to get a divorce. After the divorce my mom still owned the car but did not have the money to finish the restoration of the car. My old teacher that was restoring the car let my mom store the car in the high school shop until she could buy a house with a garage to store the car. In 2003 I graduated from collage in Tennessee and came back to Michigan. My mom still did not have a house and the car was still sitting in the high school auto shop. I asked my mom and my old teacher if I could start working on the car. They both agreed and the restoration started back up for about a month then I lost interest, so once again the car sat. In 2004 I bought my first house and moved the car to my four car garage and once again the car sat. In September of 2007 my grandpa and I had are last conversation together, he told me that he did not think I would ever get the charger done. I told him I would but he just shook his head. Two days later my grandpa passed away. This is when I decided that I needed to finish restoring the Charger. On January 30, 2008 my mom decided to sell me her 1969 Dodge Charger. The tile that she signed over to me was from 1976. It had her madden name on it and also had my grandpa's old address. She had owned the Charger for over 31 years. I'm now the third owner of the Charger. I'm currently restoring it to the way it was when my uncle, aunt and mom drove it so many years ago.

So the VIN on the title has numbers matching the body stamps? With evidence like that, you may be able to get someone to make you a tag. I would contact someone like Galen Govier or Tags Backeast direct and prepare to have to jump through a ton of hoops and wait a long time. If the story is totally legit and there is absolutely no question, you may get a tag, but it isn't 100% guranteed you will.

What a cool pic! Is that you in her arms?

The '65 GTO rag parked across the street is pretty sweet as well!

I think that in your case a state issued VIN wouldn't really detract from the value you get from the car. I don't mean the dollar amount that you could sell it for, I mean the enjoyment you receive from owning, showing and driving it. It's more like a family member by now. It's not an R/T or a Hemi car so I don't think it would take a hit on value as severe as those models would, either.

I suggest that you get the state issued VIN, restore it and enjoy. :2thumbs:

I don't know if even with the Title and all that you would be able to get a new VIN dash made up for the car. Not sure of the whole legal issues that would go along with that.

Although a state issued VIN wouldn't hurt/help the car in any way shape or form if you are never intending to part with it. Sounds like it is a part of the family, and should remain that way.

I have a cuda with all numbers and papers matching.  The vin tag was removed and lost.   Currently I havn't found anyone who remakes the vin tags or even clains to remake them.  Nobody, supposedly, makes the reproduction vin tags because of the theives out there who do 440 cars and hemi cars.  For us regular car owners this really hurts.  The only way I have found to get around this is to get a new federal issued VIN number.   They will give you a metal tag that goes on your door that is like a mile long from what i understand.
Sounds like you should run your numbers through as many registries as you can.  I would have to find out it is on another car.
Good luck!!  If I find anywhere to have a vin tag made up I will let you know.
