K frame removal

Hello friends.  I'm having trouble removing the k frame from my '70 charger.  Everything is taken off of it except the four bolts holding it to the bottom of the front rails.  There seems to be a nut holding each of the bolts inside the rails. I can see it thru a hole, I just can't get to it to hold it while I unscrew the bolts.  Am I missing something or is there another way to do this?  Thx.

There should be no need to hold anything. Those nuts should be welded to the insides of the frame rails from the factory. Just douse the bolts with some penetrating oil, wait an hour or so, penetrate some more (I do so enjoy frequent penetration...  :D), & unscrew 'em!

yep, hes right, i just removed mine, shouldnt have to hold the nut for any reason unless the welds have been broken somehow???

bill440rt, we're still talking about kframes, right? ;)

Thanks fellows, that makes sense.  I'll try it again in the morning.

This is a very common problem on 38 year old stuff . one time I had to cut an access hole to weld in a new nut

I just have removed the front suspension from my '70. The bolts have been in there quite a while and will be stubborn. Wd40 or liquid wrench will be your friend here.  Soak it and let it sit for a while then if all else fails get a longer piece of pipe  :smilielol:

Keep working them back and fourth to clean the rust off threads . If you just try to hurk them off , the cage nut will spin , then you have to cut a window in sub to get at nut ! Been there done that !

Penetrating oil & an impact gun. Like the others stated, I'd clean/spray WD40 first then wait overnight. I had one of mine hangup half way out, gave me a scare. It stopped my IR 2135Ti, for a few sec.

I would never use an Impact ! Good luck ! Keep the cut off wheel handy to cut a window !

But a breaker bar w/a pipe on the end is ok? I would think the "hammering" action an impact provides would be less likely to "spin" the nut(breaking rusty/dirty bolts lose quicker). I dissembled most of my car w/the impact w/no issues.

Easy cupcake , you have to be able to feel the binding up of threads , and when you do you have to work it in and out . Please be my guest and maybe you will get lucky . I have had to cut open many a subframe in my 25 years of doing resto work
