Just Googled some free WiFi hotspots, in my area.  Found quit a few.  Here's my question.
Listed are the locations, etc.  At the end, a few had channel 1 some channel 6 and some 11.
What's with the channel thing?  Being new to WiFi, I don't understand this.
Thanks,
Crazy

Wireless routers use one of 11 channels.  Just like channels on a TV.  Your computer searches through all the channels while it attempts to connect so it doesn't matter what channel the router is using.

The only reason to change the channel that the router is using is to avoid interference with another nearby router using the same channel.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Thanks for the info.  Makes sense.
