You know how the story goes...

A friend tells me he knows where a '67 Satellite is for sale, 318 Hardtop, automatic, good sheetmetal with very little rust for $1,800 bucks. I think this is a good deal but not sure if it could be converted to a 383 without a hassle. What trnny does this likely have? Would the 383 bolt right up? Not sure if I should even consider a 383...maybe the 318 would be worth keeping for gas mileage and reliability. I have heard that you can get 20mpg to 22mpg highway on these 318's if they are tuned well. Anyway, still waiting to hear back from my friend on it's location, but wanted to see what you guys think.

Sounds like a great deal...a buddy just sold his '67 Sat with a 318 for alot more than that. The 383 will drop right in as long as you have the proper mounts and tranny.......go for it.

is it a 2door or 4door? either way its a decent deal a 2 door obviously is better, will need mounts and tranny and adjust wiring a tad bit being dist. is in rear of small block and front of big block.

Four door Satellite?? Now that would be a find! lol

I think it is a good deal. The satellite isn't too far away from the GTX trimwise. Just a few emblem changes, add some scoops, stripes, exhaust tips, and a 440, and you're all set.

a little more than some emblems and a 440.  will have a 904 tranny w small block bell housing so you will need a new tranny, may have a 8 1/4 rearend.  I would not leave that under with a 440,  probably need to have a drive shaft made not sure but I think the shaft lenght will be different on a 904.  Not real difficult changes including moter mounts front suspension but a little more than throwing in a big block and headin to the cruize

Hey Bill, glad to see you on the site again. If body is good and not a 4 door it is a good deal. Dropping in a 383 would not be a big deal at all, 383 mont's, 727, drive shaft may need some work (ask Neil), new exhaust, radiator and wiring harnness would need some work. With the age I would buy a new harrness, only around $90.00 and new is good.

Yep, 2 door hardtop...was there such a thing as a 4 door hardtop? Still waiting for this guy to call me back. Funny, he calls me whenever he needs 55-59 Chevy pick-up parts at the drop of a hat, but when I'm looking for something he's MIA. If the car gets sold while I'm waiting on HIM I'm gonna blow a gasket.... :P

Re-read and note that I did say "trimwise". I would not include the 440, 904, dual exhaust, rear end, sending unit, fuel line size, springs, as "trim" items, and I probably shouldn't have included the 440 in that list of clone items when talking about trim changes.
