I'm getting ready to throw my Cable company's HD with DVR receiver out the window (After 5 replacements I'm done).

Anyone here have a Direct TV HD with DVR receiver?

I want to hear the good, bad and ugly about it.

I'll let you know Thursday when it is installed!  ::)

Seriously, I'm getting upgraded from standard Directv to HD on Thursday, but do not yet have an HD set (I'm tending towards the 1080 Toshiba plasma and may have it before the Superbowl). My experience with Direct TV has all been good. Neighbors have it, and are generally satisfied. You probably cannot go wrong with it.  :yesnod:

Edit: I also threw my Cable company out of my home.... :flame:

Me too. No complaints here. I've been with DTV for almost 4 years. I switched to cable about 2 years ago and 10 days later, I had them back to the house and pulled their crap out. I hate cable Co's. Ditert TV HD with DVR rocks...  :2thumbs:

i just got done working for Direct TV.  It was a career change gone horribly wrong.  I was the operations manager for all of Long Island, NY.
As far as the DTV DVR, a lot of them are refurbs and probably just as likely to take a dump as the cable company version.

Unless you have at least RG56 sized cable, you cannot use your existing wiring.  This means a lot if youhave a newer prewired home and don't want holes drilled all over the place. also, standard practice is to drill the mount for the dish right intor the roof shingles.  no side wallmounting if you have vinyl siding, only wood.

Even if you can use your existing wiring, the DTV dvr needs 2 lines, unlike the cable company dvr, so there might be drilling anyway.  Also, running a phone line to each receiver is mandatory as far as the technician is concerned. you can refuse, but it is part of the install.

Direct TV will not be installing your system, it will be a subcontactor.  Splitters are a no no too, cannot use cable company splitters with direct tv.
