I dont know much about Mopar rear ends..only that most small blocks had a 8 1/4 and big blocks had either 8 3/4 or Danas. Also, I've people referring to "center sections" and etc etc and I have no idea what they're talking about. When I think "rearends"..I think the whole rearend, axle and everything. So that brings me to the point of this thread, school me on rearends :popcrn:

Heres a good site about mopar rears,

http://www.usaimports.co.uk/Mopar_Tech_Pages/mopar_rear_ends.htm

You can see from the diagram generally what a each type of rear consists of. You can get into extreme detail (gaskets, washers..ect), but to be very basic an 8 3/4 rear is just 2 axles connected to a center section. some people call it a "pumpkin", some a "case". But you get the idea. As you can see the 8 3/4 differentials have different cases, some stronger then others.

Heres a good article about exactly how they work,

Cody, also, the big differences between the rear axle assymblies are strength.  there are several mopar rear ends, the 7 1/4(7.25) commingly used in slant 6 abodies, the 8 1/4(8.25)  used in just about anything with a mild small block, ie 318 and even some 360s, 340s were often backed with a 8.75.  then theres the 9.25 that came out way later, mainly in small trucks, the 8.75 rear end was used in most performance applications and features a removeable third member(case, pumpkin etc) that contains the gear set, thus making it easier to change gears while providing superior strength, the strongest axle is the dana 60, used as an option on high po cars such as hemis and 440+6 cars. hope this narrows it down for ya.
