I am in the market for an aftermarket a/c system. I have checked the Vintag Air web site and they look pretty good. Has anyone here installed one of these VA systems or another system? Any info you guys can give me on this would be great!
I'm glad I finally found the new and improved Charger site! I used to be ChargerPower on the old site.

There was a great set of thread son D-C.com about the Classic Auto Air setups. I don't have all of the pics but I'll dig out the ones I can find. When I looked before I couldn't find a "kit" for a Charger from Vintage Air but I do know a lot of people who have used them on other cars and are very happy with them.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Thanks Troy. Your right about VA not having a kit for a Charger. You would have to buy their universal kit and have the hoses cut and crimped yourself.

i haven't used one of my cars in 2 weeks. it's to hot. i may be looking into ac too. Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

I have a Classic Auto Air setup under the hood with my original condensor. The stock heater box and controls are still inside the passenger compartment. My car is a factory A/C car.

It works great but it was not exactly a bolt-in. I ended up having to fabricate a bracket. Plus you have to have the hoses crimped locally (or mark them and send them back to CAA)

Bouchillon Performance sell Mopar-specific kits. I bought one of their brackets to replace my old RV-2 compressor with a Sanden.

Getting hoses crimped is no big deal. Many non-discount autoparts stores can do it (i.e. CarQuest, Napa).

Classic Air Auto makes systems for MOPARs like charger1970 said they aren't exactly bolt-in but it would be better than a universal kit I'm sure. here is a link http://www.classicautoair.com/perfect-fit.asp

I have a 1970 Charger R/T with factory AC. It's performance is quite poor. The fan blower is very ineffective even at the high setting. Does the swap to the Classic Air system increase the effectiveness over the factory system? Did you go with R12 or 134? And lastly, did you compare the Classic system to Vintage Air?

Thanks.

You have a good wife. You're a lucky man. I have been fortunate in the same way. When I first considered buying and restoring my Charger my wife asked me about how much will that cost? I said $40,000 to $45,000 total. She said go for it. I did.

Your problem is likely the wiring and switch to your fan. I too have low fan speed which hurts the performance. I found I am only getting about 6 volts to the fan on the high setting. I'm sure much of that drop is through the fan switch and bulkhead connector. As a test, I jump the fan directly to the battery and it blows like a hurricane.

I'm still working to get it fixed.

471_Magnum,

I did the same thing and found it to be slightly better but still pretty ineffective. I think I am going to go the Classic Air route.

I have factory air in mine.  I just had it retrofitted for the new freon.  My expansion valve is bad and I have not been able to find a replacement.  Do any of these places sell repro's or aftermarket replacements.  I couldn't find any info on them.
Over?! its not over until we say it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!...Hell no! and its not over now!..(Germans? Pearl Harbor?...shut up, he's on a roll)

Give Classic Air a call. They sell new and rebuilt factory air parts. Their number is 813-251-2356.
