I will have to agree with most everything Mike said Curtis...............

The very well off DOH fan, that has that kind of money, is going to consider a few scratches on the
roof from the ''prior'' owner ''JS'', nothing more than another one of JS signatures on the car. I have
seen a few ''TV series'' cars not restored, going for upward of 250k, and those cars were not owned
by a ''celebrate'', or tricked out anything like JS GL.

So, all I can say is, I don't know anybody that can afford to pay 450k for a car worth ?  but I can see
that ''maybe'' few scratches to that person will not mean a drop in the bucket   :yesnod: :yesnod:

Dan

Can't say I disagree with that. All I'm saying is that Schneider's antics may have hurt the auction because he played to the DOH crowd instead of the general population, who probably considered the charity to be the auction's saving grace. At any rate, I considered it to be a bit of a drunken freak show and standing on the roof of a Charger, General Lee or not, is not cool.

WOW!!!! I can't believe how long this is going on!  Does anybody really give a crap or does it piss you guys off that much that he stood on the roof of a car?

If I remember right he tried to distance himself from the role for quite some time.....plus he didn't drive the General very much either.  ;)

Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) is so over DOH these days it's not even funny.
I don't think he cares if he ever sees another orange Charger as long as he lives.

About the only time he gets involved in a DOH thing is when the whole surviving cast is gonna do something in the public eye, and he would have totally stood out for being the one person missing if he didn't show.  He doesn't go around badmouthing DOH or anything, but he's just totally moved on.

--------------------------------------

Wopat has also moved on from TV/movies in general.  He saved most of his DOH money back in the day and he does theater/musical stuff now.  He's actually turned down & quit a few TV gigs over the years since DOH.

I'm confused. If you guys hate this "useless" thread so much and want it to go away why do you help perpetuate it with more replies?

Although, he was in a TV show (Smallville??) for one episode with John and in that episode they drove a Charger. It was a '68 and blue though

The blue '68 Charger that they actually stunt-drove in that Smallville episode was a GL replica that belonged to a guy in the DOH fan community.  They hastily sprayed it blue/vinyl topped and dressed it out like a '68.  You could still see the GL-style rollbar & light tan interior visible in the episode footage.  The '68 style turn signals were actually big steel washers they temporarily glued onto the panels.  It was re-converted back to a GL afterwards by WB when the episode was finished.

Ya know, I remember John doing interviews with that car on entertainment tonight or some other TV video-rag. And if I'm not mistaken, he [and the reporter] did quite a few "Duke" slides across that hood. That car was a driver at best, a very fast driver! No show pony there. As far as the charity thing, well, they should be happy they are getting anything.

People get caught up in the moment, and sometimes do silly or stupid things. I am sure if John had damaged the car in any way he would have fixed it or reduced the price accordingly. Lets all remember John is one of the "Good Guys" . He's one of us, a Charger Lover.

My only hope is that some day these orange-mobiles will be brought back to their original glory. My opinion.

The orange-mobiles shouldn't go away, they should just reduce in number and concentrate into the hands of the diehard DOH fans.

I'm glad people saw DOH and wanted to restore a Charger, but IMO there's just way too many casual fans doing GLs anymore.  It seems like having a GL replica is barely even a guarantee that you're a diehard fan of the show anymore.  People could be doing something more original if they don't feel obsessively attached to an exact GL look.

I agree with the last two posts. How many more DOH cars will be built this year alone? There should be a limit to how many DOH cars are allowed to be built. I can handle a modified car, but, ah screw it, the DOH charger look obviously makes me wanna  :puke:. I could care less what movie star, singer, etc.. owns a car like so or tries to sell for more money than its worth. $450 grand for a DOH charger that not even 100% show room quality, that just goes to prove, some people have more money than brains.
This thread should die and go away.  :flush:

I don't fault anyone making a DOH clone for themselves, but I can see outfits trying to hype "how much more valuable their GL clones are compared to regular Chargers" now as a selling point due to this one car selling high.  Hope nobody falls for that, but mention B-J prices and the publlic take notice......... :Twocents:

I am not sure why people have a big dislike for the GL, but it all boils down to paint and stickers for me. Nothing unrepairable is done to most replicas out there. If someone likes the GL, then more power to them. I have wanted a GL since I first saw the show. I have one now, and it wasn't even my first Charger. I had a '74 first, then a '73, then my '71 Super Bee, then the '69 GL. I have had the GL since 2001. I have had my fun. My kids enjoy it. Now I am thinking of selling it and concentrating on the '71. If I decide to sell, I won't care one iota if the next person keeps it a GL or does something different. Once they have it, it is their car.

I think some people that have spent thousands of dollars restoring their Charger to factory specs hate it when people at shows come up to their car and don't admire it for the work put into it, but admire it because "this is the same car as the General Lee". My cousin has a nice '67 Ford Fairlane XL 500. He always says it is funny when people start walking towards his car and then pass it by when they see my GL next to him. We both have a laugh because we see the power of nostalgia at work. People our age see the GL and immediatly remember their childhood because that car was a part of their childhood. By the same token, my cousin has a lot of older gentleman looking at his car instead of mine because they remember owning a car like his or their uncle had one, etc.. Nostalgia for them.

The reason I would keep the Bee and not the General also has reasons. I bought that car and my cousin and I flew one way to Great Falls, MT to pick it up. We drove it back in a little over a day and I have had it ever since. That was April 22, 1989. It was also the first Muscle car my kids rode in after they were born. It is also the first car my wife and I bought together. It is also the generation of Charger I remember Richard Petty driving in NASCAR. Brings back good memories.

Be happy a charity is getting a lot of money and be happy the car wasn't jumped for money. All the rest is bitching for the sake of bitching. The only person I would think that should have a problem with JS standing on the roof is the new owner. If they don't mind, why should I. I will only care if I am a prospective buyer of that particular car in the future, which I won't be because I don't make that kind of money.

Another frustrating factor is that there's not always a correlation between when you got your GL done versus how rabid of a fan you are.

I can think of numerous guys who've been huge into DOH ever since it was a small-time hobby back the 1990s, and they still haven't been able to get a Charger yet.  Of course people will write them off as "just doing it because it's trendy" when they finally get one.

69_500

DOH a small hobby back in the 90's? I think it was a small hobby back in the mid 80's but by the 90's I was already seeing several General Lee replica's at car shows around the country.

Personally it doesn't matter to me if you redo a charger in stock trim or as a General Lee, as long as  there is another one out there being enjoyed by its owner. However I wouldn't pay $450K for a HEMI Charger if John Schneider owned it, let alone for a General Lee replica car. That was sheer stupidity if you ask me. I don't spend $$$$ on cars just because of who owned them. That is unless it was a car that my DAD used to own, then I might pay a little more for it now due to family connections. But it wouldn't matter to me if another car was owned by the President of the USA, or the King of England, or anyone else it wouldn't make it worth that much more.
