seeing a mutt, beat, General Lee clone bring almost 4 times the money burns a bit. The antics of a guy walking around carelessly on the roof of said car burns a little too as many guys are struggling just to get their in shape.

Thanks to Jim and Bull for putting this into perspective...its nothing against John Schnieder personally - - nor has IT EVER BEEN!  It appears that the majority of people who posted on this thread are in agreement that this was not the way to sell a car to the Barrett-Jackson audience......i.e the people who can afford to eat caviar and wipe their asses with $100 bills.

Regarding standing on the roof of a car - - that has never been done before - - and probably not a good selling technique.

You could see the roof bending in when he was walking around on it. It couldn't have been good. But for the sake of all the crying I am sure it was still mint and no harm done.

I'm not saying that walking on the roof was a wise thing to do at that auction or anything, but sheesh.  Give it a rest.  It's not like he jumped it. 


Schnieder didn't purchase and build it up ten years ago with the intention of impressing B-J buyers.  The car isn't a piece of sh*t or anything, but it has seen plenty of climbing in through the windows & powersliding in the dirt.  Get over it.  We're still basically talking about a hot-rodded Charger with '70s mag wheels & a confederate flag on the roof.

I do have to agree that standing on the roof was stupid.   I just think it is funny how everybody is ripping on him for not going about selling the car the right way but also complaining about who in the hell would pay that kind of money for a car.  I just wish everybody would quit bitching about how much someone overpaid for that car.  Don't forget that a portion of it went to charity.  I don't think what the car sold for will affect the price of 69' chargers whatsoever.  I would be more pissed that these rich guys are paying around $100,000 for stock chargers, cuda's, and challengers.  I think that is screwing up our hobby more than any thing.

I still have yet to watch Saturday & Sunday's coverage, it's still on my DVR. I started watching the YouTube clip, but had to shut it off as soon as Schneider got up on the roof & started to sing. I cringed in my chair, probably just like everyone in that audience.

There is absolutely no respect on his part for that car. As a classic car owner, why in the world would you want to walk on it?? Or any car owner, for that matter? Especially in front of prospective buyers???       

I just couldn't watch...

I forgot to mention in my previous post. The GL was nice but did not "pop" like some of the higher quality restorations. I saw some overspray in the wheel wells.

Let's all not forget that it wasn't a rock concert, it was a car auction with a bunch of rich guys that are probably too uptight to sing the DOH theme song.

Exactly, so why was he singing at all? Why was he sucking up to the white trash instead of to the people with money? The half dozen Bubbas who were there cheering him on can barely afford the admission and $450 hotel bill let alone $450k for the car (which sold for about $425k more than it's worth). That video was embarrassing, I couldn't watch it all.

The people interested in buying it SAW him on it and kept bidding...  Who cares what his antics were to sell it? That CRAZY EDDIE or LARRY or what ever his name is, in New York sells the hell out of stuff due to his CRAZY attitude.. Maybe he figured doing something different would work for him... I'm not a Duke fan. Movie or show. BUT,,, you can bet if I starred in a show and had a cloned car for sale i would do everything I could think of to squeeze peoples wallets out...

No history?...According to John this car was the last one used in the ORIGINAL series.  I know the hardcore DOH fan will pay a premium for a car used in either series let alone the last car of the original one.  Plus the fact John owned it means it's gonna bring a good price.  We all know what it's worth if one of us owned it, maybe that's why there's so much animosity.  Good for John and the Autism charity. 
What happened to it being so cool that celebrities owned these cars?  Just don't go selling one.

That's a blast from the past. That dude was brought up on some major fraud charges like 20 years ago. He bolted to Israel, but came back later to face the music. I'm sure he's out of jail by now. The commercials were awesome. The guy in the commercials was not Crazy Eddie Antar.

I wanted to make the point that by the time he was standing on the car, it was no longer his to stand on.  The fine print from the auction states that the car becomes the property of B-J when it comes up for auction.  Otherwise, you would not have to buy back your own car if it sold too low.  If B-J wanted to push the issue, they could force him (or his insurance) to pay for repairs to the car since they owned it when he dented the roof.  Since it was being sold to charity, I don't think they will do that as it would then look bad on them......

The money went to a worthy cause. That makes the car worth it in my book.
