I don't know any extra secrets about this issue, but the fact that Schnieder didn't ultimately sue for the money has made plenty of people wonder if that huge bid was an inside job.

Schnider's not normally the type for that kind of major monkey business.  But then again it's hard to imagine being gypped out of $10 million and not trying very hard to chase it down with a lawyer.  If the guy was allowed to bid for $10 million then he must technically have posessed that much, right?

Either way, this rumor will probably never be settled.

And like I was stating - there had to be bidder(s) under that to get the car to that price. Unless they have the pre approved bidder thing anyone could bid that's registered.

That's just it --  I think they DID have the pre-approval thing on that auction.

If that's the case I guess his internet buddys never showed up for BJ's then.

lol yeah i was screaming at him for the roof.. crickets when he sang the song. i felt awkward for that minute. made me wish i had one again just for a moment.. i think his reserve on ebay was $500,000 $450k seems like a good sell to me, considering it has no REAL major history

Yeah, he was trying to pump up the crowd to no avail....they didn't seem to give a shit. The car was pretty much a TURD up close.  Somebody bought a rough Hemi clone for 450 grand!!  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

Sounds like many in the crowd were pumped up.  I hear plenty of cheering and singing along on the latest Youtube vid of the event.

Do you guys have to bitch about  everything?   If I wanted to listen to constant bitching I would go and talk to my wife. :icon_smile_big:  Let's all not forget that it wasn't a rock concert, it was a car auction with a bunch of rich guys that are probably too uptight to sing the DOH theme song.

Sounds like a bit more than that.  Anyways I'm not expecting everyone at BJ auction to start singing with John.  Many of them are older than he is and probably never saw the show.

Exactly, so why was he singing at all? Why was he sucking up to the white trash instead of to the people with money? The half dozen Bubbas who were there cheering him on can barely afford the admission and $450 hotel bill let alone $450k for the car (which sold for about $425k more than it's worth). That video was embarrassing, I couldn't watch it all.

I think Bull hit the nail on the head on this one. Maybe he should have tried to pull off a yanni cover tune instead of Waylon.

Ghoste

Well maybe next year he can do better, because for that much money he needs to booger up a fake GL every year and bring it to the show.  The profit margin (time and money invested versus money made) on that car had to be a lot more than his acting career is right now.

bill440rt

I still have yet to watch Saturday & Sunday's coverage, it's still on my DVR. I started watching the YouTube clip, but had to shut it off as soon as Schneider got up on the roof & started to sing. I cringed in my chair, probably just like everyone in that audience.

There is absolutely no respect on his part for that car. As a classic car owner, why in the world would you want to walk on it?? Or any car owner, for that matter? Especially in front of prospective buyers???  :brickwall:  :brickwall:  :brickwall:  :flame:

I just couldn't watch...  :rotz:

Honestly, I think he's built a bunch (like 30?) so that's not really a surprise.

This one was actually raced by him (and others) and was used in a movie and some DOH stuff so maybe it has more value than the rest. Who knows? I never could get into the concept of "star cars" or nearly any memorabilia for that matter but, good for him if he can maximize the value. I think BJ was probably the wrong place to sell simply due to the audience.

Yeah but why didn't he trickle down to lower bidders on ebay? The BJ price was a fraction of what ebay was. I just think his buddys stayed home. There would be a hell of lot of buyer fees if one of his buddys bid and didn't really buy it  :Twocents:

It is not about controversy, it seems like anytime there is mention of a General Lee (regardless of which one) there is a perpetual rant about "man I can't stand that car..." or "can you be more original.."

I thought we were all here to talk about ALL chargers and that includes one of the ones that has made the 69 even more popular...it is up to each person to decide if he likes that paint or not....does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?? :flame:

Agreed, I'm disappointed about some of the posts in this thread.  The replies should have been congrats to John for selling his car and being able to donate a portion of the $450,000 to a charity.  Instead we have attitudes by some of the members here.  It's as if they don't like John or the GL or the Dukes of Hazzard or that the car sold for $450,000.

So far on this thread I've seen almost utter disdain towards John and his GL.  I've seen members calling him a putz, or stupid for standing on the car.  People claiming the car was a "turd" up close.  Or people getting a kick out of him starting to sing to get the crowd going.  Some claimed John got no reaction from the audience, funny the Youtube video I saw I heard people whistling and cheering when they introduced John.  When he began singing I heard quite a few in the audience getting into it even clapping, not all but quite a few.  Another claimed the car is owned by someone who hasn't made a name for himself.  Let's see John was on a succesful family oriented t.v. show that's literally just as popular now more than ever.  He was on another successful show i.e. Smallville, and is now doing Niptuck.  Sounds like he's made a name for himself.

I realize there are many who are not fans of the Dukes or the General Lee.  No problem ,different strokes for different folks, but it seems members on here have disdain for anything Dukes related.  If someone likes the way a General Lee looks and wants to turn their Charger into one more power to them.  If a General Lee personally owned by a former cast member goes for a high price great.

Personally I'm not a fan of vinyl tops on Chargers but I don't go around bad mouthing anyone who has one on their car.  John is a Mopar fan, and a big Charger fan.  This board is for FANS to come together and discuss the car we love, not put down someone because you happen to dislike a show he was on or the paint job of his car.

Just my 2 cents
