Sorry to hear that Mark. Kind the same way I got fired this past October and had to sell my Charger cause of it. They knew they were going to fire me because I ran over weight a couple of times in the truck (which is normally no big deal unless your caught and I wasn't), but they figured to let me go at the end of the week anyway. Pricks. :rotz:

BTW - unemployment is $355. a week now.

Small story here, I was fired once...found another job, was able to afford to buy wife new car, sold our house and bought another with garage parking for 7 cars now.....

It will all work out for the best.....

Sorry to hear about that. Don't let the bastards get away with crap. I'm sure you can easily get another job, hopefully a better place  :2thumbs:

I'm sorry to hear about this Mark, and believe me, I know EXACTLY how you feel.  I got the news Thursday afternoon.

I can't say much about my job other then that it was with a Military contractor.  During the past two years I've been working on a major project and had as many as 6 people under me at any given time.  Well, about a month ago we scored big time.  30 Million bucks in future funding.

So what did I get out of it?  4 weeks severence pay.  Seems that now that they had their funding, they didn't need me anymore.   :flame:

Sorry to hear about the whole losing a job issue. Had the same thing happen to me 3 years ago. Was working for a "family" construction company, and had been there for 9 years. Got canned at the end of a day on a Friday. Had me work all week for them, and finish up 2 seperate job sites in that week then got rid of me. It was all to save a few $$$$.

Hopefully you find a job soon, and your able to kind of shove it back in their face. I went straight to another construction company (that was a known competitor) and was hired 2 days later.

mally69

Really sorry to hear about that loss, but if you don't draw unemployment that would be kinda stupid becuase its pretty much free money.   yea it is a hassel at first but once you get rolling it is very easy. :coolgleamA:  Its better than none at all :scratchchin:

mally69

Hmm i never though  about what state your in but i am in PA, so its probably different. Here in PA  it only takes a five minute phone call, then in 2 weeks you fill for you money, but you dont get paid for the first week becuase its considered a waiting week , but after that it goes biweekly.  Either way i hope you find a new job or get your old one back, which ever makes you happy. Good luck :2thumbs:

bull

Bummer. Don't let it get you down. You'll find enough work to hold it together until you go to Spokane anyway. Sounds like you'll be better off without them.

TruckDriver

Unemployment here in Wisconsin takes 1 week to get if that. If you loose your job, or get layed off, you make a phone call to the unemployment office to open a claim, then on the first Sunday after the phone call, you call in (or file on the internet) to make your first weekly claim. On every Tuesday, you get your check in the mail or by direct deposit.

Don't let it get you pissed off, dad69!!  at least try not to let it get you fuming for a long time.  easier said than done in your situation.  If you brood over this thing for a long period, then they win. Your best revenge will be getting another job (sounds like you got that pretty much covered) and be happy.  I have had  bad things in my life turn out for the better and this will likely be the result for you too. Hell, open your own shop and run them out of business.  maybe that owner ends up sweeping your floor!!  wouldn't that be sweet?  and if that happens and all they see is a big fat smile on your face the whole time, even right after they can you, they won't know what hit them.  shock and awe, baby!!

and by the way, that explanation they gave you smells rotten as all hell.  Any halfway decent business man can afford to keep good people, even expensive ones.  smart people realize that you get what you pay for.  sounds like maybe they are running the place into the
ground/ cannot manage thier money.

Sorry to hear about the job crap, it sounds like you've got a pretty good attitude about your prospects, though.
I've only had one occasion where I was out of work for a while, we lived off our savings for about 40 days until I found a job. It got sorta scary near the end, but we made it. I've never used unemployment.

Hopefully your next job will be much better.

Hope that happens real soon for you, amigo.

It's gotta feel pretty good to know you that you have skills to get another job easily.  A lot of people in your situation could not.  I am a manager now, but made my living with my hands for 15 years.  Thank god for that.  Management jobs come and go like the wind, but there wil always be a need for "boots on the ground" as they say.  The physical work is something that just cannot be farmed out to a foreign country.

Thanks 41Husk. I've done a few side jobs lately and it took me away from my family a lot. I agree though, make money when in time and of need. But Monday after I make a few calls and go to a few other shops, I'm sure I'll be posting that I got a new job sooner than I expect. I'll be fine, I'm just pissed that this happend at a shop where family is important and they have been good to me, thus being very strange why it went down like so. But, now its my turn to finish what he started.
Also, I have a rich wife!!  :icon_smile_big:

The job market here is awesome. I have two other shops to go back to later this afternoon, it snowed last night here also, wrecks galore today already. I love it when people wreck just good enough for me to get work. I study Jeet Kune Do and Kempo.

Awesome Mark, I hope you get the job.  May not be the most glamorous painting cop cars, but who cares right???

Magnumcharger

I've been watching this thread. I've been in your shoes brother. And have also watched a lot of other good techs get the boot for no other reason than managers/owners trying to pinch pennies.
I worked both on straight time and piecemeal at several bodyshops, including dealerships and a resto shop. Bodywork and paint is a rough way to make a living, and if people actually knew how much work actually went into repairing even the smallest fender-bender, they'd be amazed!
The best retaliation I ever saw was a painter that got canned at a GM dealership I was at. He took a very large squirt bottle of Armor-all protectant, and walked around the shop giving the spraybooth, filters, work surfaces, and walls a healthy dose of spray.

Needless to say, the fallout was immense.

And no, it wasn't me that did it...
