While the compressor looks good, the underdash part looks cheesy.  I guess it did preserve the originality of the dash though :Twocents:

ya what are those off of?  :shruggy:
max wedge

Most definitely max wedge.  Several years ago I toyed with the idea of putting together a max wedge motor for the Daytona in lieu of the standard-fare HP440.  Those are some stout engines, even with A/C...   :poke:

:2thumbs:

69_500

So how many dealer installed A/C Superbirds are there? I have a friend who has a B5 blue one that is an unrestored car as well. Bare bones car though other than the dealer installed A/C. I think he picked it up about 4 years ago now, can't remember exactly when. 440 4bbl, AT on the column car with a bench seat.

62 Max

You will never know how many there are.It was just something the owner did if he wanted a/c.There are eleven Superbirds within a 80mi. radius of me.One of those has dealer installed a/c.Owner never used it because it ran hot with the a/c on.

69_500

I'll agree that we will never know exactly how many had it at one time, but how many are known of today that had it? I guess that would be a better way to put it.

abebummy26

Gene I know where there is a Maxx Wedge local for $1000 buxx just comes with a boat and trailer.

69_500

Would that be a 413 Max Wedge, or a 426 Max Wedge?

abebummy26

Let me make this clear though you have to take the boat and trailer with it. :yesnod:

69_500

Doesn't seem like a bad deal on a 426 Max Wedge even if it comes with a boat anchor.  ;)

abebummy26

Yeah Its been available for a couple years and my body man cant find anybody who wants to buy it. And he goes to body shops in four states for work. You could make some money back by scraping the trailer its homemade out of steel.

69_500

Am I right in thinking that some of the Marine engines of the day had a crank that went the opposite direction of a street engine?

abebummy26

I heard all you had to do was swap intakes and carbs.

62 Max

You heard wrong. The marine engine is a solid lifter motor but there is where it ends. :pity:

abebummy26

Ok well its good to have the experts here. Its not like I haven't been wrong b4. :brickwall: Would you have to switch lifters If you wanted to just drop it in something?.

A single engine in a boat turned the same direction as a street engine. A boat with 2 engines side by side has one turn the opposite the other for torque cancellation. If both turned the same direction, the boat would tip to one side abruptly. I worked on marine craft for 6 years....hated the mess with serviceing the engines.

Worked on a number of "reverse rotation" 318's & 440"s......had to rebuild a couple of 331 Hemis in a boat that sunk....

Bryan  (sorry for thread hi-jack...now back to our regularly scheduled topic)

69_500

Ah so it was only in a boat that had 2 engines that one turned the opposite direction. So I guess I had heard partialy correct. Man, what fun it would be though to have a boat with twin 426 Max Wedge's on. Do you think it would have enough get up and go to do some tubing behind the boat?  :nana:

wetfeetmi

Most competition ski boats (Mastercraft, Malibu, Supra, etc.) marine engines turned same direction as autos, but
Correct Craft (Ski Nautique) engines were right hand rotation. The idea was it would counter act the weight discrepancy of the driver and make the wake more symmetrical. I never really noticed the difference to a point where it bothered me when skiing or barefooting.
If you want to change a right hand motor to left, you must change the cam, distributer and starter.

A383Wing

....and the crankshaft....the rear main seal oil grooves are cut opposite direction on the reverse rotation motor.

Bryan

abebummy26

Its not a ski boat. Its a like 25 foot runabout. I wont be buying this motor. I have nothing to put it in. I am just telling you guys not my motor just saying it is available.

There is a Superbird in NJ that I regularly work on that had the same dealer installed A/C unit. Last spring I took it all out(saved it, don't worry).  It was very crudely installed, looks like they just punched the hole in the firewall with a hammer and chisel.  I also worked on a red Daytona with dealer A/C some years back.  That system was also removed when the car was restored, sometime in the mid 90's.

It's a Tor-red car, black int.  'Course, that was back in the ol' days where memory cards were expensive, and I have very few shots of the museum.

Here are the pics I have from there:  really, only a couple more, which is a shame considering how many cars were there--over 200.  The place is insane.

All but a VERY few were kept in open air barns--some didn't even have four walls.

In this building were at least two Shelbys, a couple big block mustangs, 428CJ/4 speed '69 torino, an S/C Rambler, and more.  There weren't really any lights, and a couple of the buildings were very dark.  Most of the cars have been there for over 20 years.  Most of the cars were sitting either on flat tires or 4x4's to make them look level, too.  About the only cars indoors, stored well, were a "gone in 60 seconds" Elanor mustang (new one) and a General Lee clone.  That car was somewhere between the insect and gemstone collections.  The place was schizophrenic to say the least.

It was kinda like going to one of those awful old concrete zoos and finding all the animals are sick.
