What is stock fuel pump pressure ?

  I just bought a new electric fuel pump on e-bay ( ). Anyway, the add claimed it was a 7psi pump.  When I opened the box, it said it had a operation psi of only 4 psi and a shut off pressure at 7psi.  Will this work on my Stock sytem, or is 4psi's too low.  What do you think.  Did I get ripped or not ??

According to my 71 Service Manual the stock fuel pump specifications are

6 cyl                               3 1/2 to 5 lbs
318 340 360                    5 to 7 lbs
383 440                          3 1/2 to 5 lbs
426 hemi                        7 to 8 1/2 lbs
440 H.P.                         6 to 7 1/2 lbs

It also states the fuel pump should supply 1 quart of fuel in 1 minute or less at idle

Actually it depends on the volume it is capable of running. 7PSI may be peak which in all actuality will be more than enough unless you are running a real hot engine. If you install it, Take the car out and put it through its paces and if it falls on its face, you don't have enough fuel pump.

 Okay thanks for the info.  So, operating pressure at 4psi, with a pressure shut off of 7psi sounds okay then ? Its going on my 72 Charger with a worked over 383 that is 40 % stronger than stock I am told.

Well, I don't know what your "Worked over 383" consists of, but unless you're running a small fuel line, I'd say give it a try.

I had a Holley red pump on my 440 for a while. Lots of things I didnt like about it. Too noisy for one. I had problems with fuel starvation at high RPM. Not enough fuel delivery for a big block from a low end pump. If you want to use an electric pump go with a big one, not a little Holley. 

I went with a mechanical fuel pump and all my problems went away.
