I picked up this one owner '68 Satellite and I'm undecided wether to keep it as original or clone into a Road Runner. :shruggy: It's a non A/C, manual steering, manual brakes car with 69,000 original miles. It currently has a 318 with two barrel carb and 904 tranny. It does have a 8 3/4 open rear. Just wanted to get some other opinions so feel free to put in your  :Twocents:

Since you asked...make it into a Road Runner.  :yesnod:  I firmly believe that you should do whatever you want to your car. Your car is an excellent candidate for upgrading.  :2thumbs:

It is basically a Roadrunner already minus big block, a horn, and some decals. Like the others said it is perfect canditate if you want a Runner.

I should have added that I intend to flip this car. I already have four other performance Mopars (70 'Cuda 440-6, 69 Charger R/T, 72 BB Road Runner and a '69 BB Dart). I guess I was just wondering what would sell for better money. I've seen clone Runners on E-bay selling for almost as much as an original (if it's done right).

Mike DC

Might as well clone it.  The low-option stripper model you're starting with is about as tailor-made for a RR clone as it gets.

Depends on how much you need to put into it for the cloning vs what you have in it right now. Doing a resto(even partial) and trying to flip in this market may not be that good of an idea. If you really want to just flip it I would clean it up good and try selling as a survivor first. You can always do a clone later if that don't work. If you do then start a resto/clone you will have to finish it to get any money back too.

I'm all about doing whatever you want to your own car,  BUT......it is a pretty neat car being that its a survivor.  I would leave it alone if you're going to flip it.

i agree. if you're gonna flip it just sell it as is. the more you spend on a car like that the less return you'll get. just put in the ad "would be excellent roadrunner clone" that would be enough. and let the new buyer choose how far to go with it. the way it is, it can be bought and fixed either way.. semi survivor or all out roadrunner clone. with the market the way it is, personally if you get them cheap enough.. don't do ANY major work to them and get what you can profit and move on

It doesn't look so much like a survivor to me - - - with the green painted bumpers!   But, he wants to flip it  - - then I would leave it alone like Trav says.... let the new buyer do whatever he wants with the car.  I wouldn't throw the survivor term around on a car with green bumpers  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

They are only original once.  To me it's simple.  Original paint/interior keep it as such,  Repaint, do as you please. :Twocents:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Ha!!  I didn't make the connection at first......but you're right!!! - It does resemble "olive drab" doesn't it??  The painted bumpers also give it that military look as well  :yesnod:

This will clear it up a little. I think Hawkeye would drive it.

P.S......I SUCK at Photoshop.

Actually with the painted bumper and color it looks pretty cool as a military type muscle car. I wonder how many Sats the Pentagon bought back in '68??

Well, since you asked... :scratchchin: I'd put a big block in it and keep the Satellite emblems. You definately don't see alot of those. But do what makes you happy.

the coolest would be to stuff a massive drivetrain in there and have a killer sleeper car.

That's what I'd do in your position.

Although, if I had the money, I'd buy it, clone it into a RoadRunner, and give it to my dad as a belated retirement gift.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

I'm going a slightly different route.  I have a 70 Satellite I'm fixing up.  I installed RR taillights and a Go-Wing, but then shaved all the body-side moldings and emblems.  If anybody asks what it is, I'll just say "It's a Plymouth."

So since no one else has asked yet, how much do you want for it as-is?

I like the idea of dropping in a BB but leaving it as a Satellite. It would make a hell of a sleeper. The lady that owned the car got a quick paint job on it because it was faded out. The chrome on the bumpers had some surface rust and the painter talked her into covering those as well to save some money. I personally do not like this shade of green. I was thinking T5 copper, white interior with black accents. I diffently want to keep the dog dish wheels though. I appreciate everyones ideas. Thanks!

What a great gift that would be. My very first car was a 68 GTX.

Probably around ten. This car is rock solid, really clean pans and all original metal.

Keep it a Satellite and drop a 440+6 between the fenders.   :D

That's the thing with a flip. If you want 10K now how much would you expect to get as a Roadrunner clone. Say you spend 20K doing the clone you need to get $30k just to break even. You will also eliminate a tons of buyers that may have been able to pull the trigger at 10K but not 30K. Just something to keep in mind.
