What are with kids these days?

what is it with kids?  nobody will let them do anything or go anywhere by themselves and what do you think will happen when they finally get a moment or two of freedom?  people have given up home discipline so society has responded by taking away any freedom that any kid ever had.  it's a losing battle.  Every new rule, regulation, etc... is a solution to a problem.  it's way easier to prevent the problem.

why do you think that someone somewhere invented the phrase "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"?  because it is.  Try putting out a forest fire with a garden hose.  it's a lot easier to just put away the matches in the first place. The responses by the "man" or the "establishment" are about as effective as closing the barn door after the horse got out.  It would be way easier for parents to put the video games away for an hour or 2 per day and actually interact with thier kids and show them you love them by disciplining them.

The result is kids that are out of control and the rest of us have to try to clean up the mess.  How else do you explain that once or twice a year I am out on my street at 3am in my underwear telling a group of kids to shut the ....up?  because if thier parents gave half a crap, they would have instilled some sense of consideration for others in them.  and if the cops bring them home for such a minor offense, no punishment at all.  If i would have done that, I'd still be walking funny to this day.

More ass-whoopins and less time outs.  I think it all started with the PC crowd around the late 80's early 90's. If I got in trouble at school, the coach would spank my ass with a huge paddle about 6 or 8 times.  Then the school would call my dad and then he'd whoop my ass again when I got home.  Needless to say, I didn't do a lot of stupid sh#t at school or around the house.  Don't get me started on this crap.

I remember when I was in middle school at a military school up north where they were REALLY proud of the fact that they practiced corporal punishment.  My History teacher was also the football coach and gym teacher...big ol' meatheaded jock type.  One day, one of my classmates (8th grade BTW) wasn't paying attention and the teacher whacked him in the head.  This guy...who weighed all of 160 pounds got up and beat the coach so bad he put him in the hospital...I mean "coach" went limp and this kid was still wailin' on him.  It took 10 of us to drag him off the teacher.

After coach came back, I don't think he ever slapped ANYONE again.  My classmate got expelled, but he wound up going to public school and graduating.  Las I heard, he was a reasonably successful financial planner.

I still smile when I think about coaches' face when Joe stood up.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

My dad told me about one of his school incidents. I dont remember what he did but his teacher hit him in the side of the head (right on the ear) with a ruler and blood starting coming out of my dad's ear. He ran out of the class and ran to his dad's work down the street. His dad came back, talked to the principle and the teacher got a suspension.

I remember as a kid holding out my hands and the leather strap coming down across my fingers. At the other end of the strap was a 50 year old lady looking down  over her glasses. Now 20 years later i realized that i have to pay good money to have a middle age lady dresses in a school uniform to hit me with a piece of leather. :pity:
